Biggest Surprise: I had no idea that Heart of Darkness was barely a novella.
Biggest Disappointment: Footnotes to Sex. Was marketed as a ladlit-style "PhD student looks for love" tale. And it wasn't. (Well, not in the expected sense, anyway)
Book of the Year: A tie between The Road and World War Z. Two post-apocalyptic tales, coming from very different ends of the spectrum.
