Because Brimstone gets very little love:
here's the rundown of the pairing. I freely admit to plundering her recs at the bottom for this entry. In my own defense, there are so few good fics around for this that they would have ended up here even without the list.
Dubious Nutritional Value by
m_butterfly*
Pairing: Devil/Stone
Rating: NC17
Summary: A light and fluffy tale of sex, snacks, and rock'n'roll.
"I'm having sex on a sofa with the Devil. I'm trying not to make assumptions"
Brimstone is such a tragically small fandom that I can't *believe* that it's taken so long to stumble upon Milkshake Butterfly's stuff. And playful snark is always good. Snark and really, really nice sex.
All of her Brimstone stuff is amazing. Granted, she wrote the (above) entry for the pairing.
Despair: A Love Story by Jack
buggeryPairing: Devil/Stone, Stone/omc
Rating: NC17
Summary: Zeke adjusts to life after Hell.
He started to seek out temptation, to crave standing beside a sleek car he'd like to take for a joyride or some scumbag skel who richly deserved a beating until he imagined he could hear a slickly-smooth voice enticing him to give in to his baser nature.
This fic answers one of the fundamental questions we were left with when the show ended- how could Zeke ever possibly return to his old life? Moody and realistic, strung between temptation and self-destruction, even the slash adds to the development, not overshadowing it.
Rest Ye Merry by Jack
buggeryRating: PG
Summary: Sarcasm, Christmas, and the Devil. Poor Zeke.
Zeke just shook his head. Whether the donation bucket was an illusion, or the Devil's appearance in place of an actual Salvation Army volunteer was, or the master of Hell really was appropriating small change from unsuspecting mortals, Zeke wasn't in the mood for the headache wondering about it would give him.
So the quote I really wanted to use is at the end, but it’s the twist that gives this some real flavor and so I couldn’t bring myself to spoil it.
101 Ways To End Up In A Canadian Shack by
thete1**
Rating: PG
Summary: Title says it all.
"How in God's name am I supposed to get from L.A. to Saskatoon with thirty bucks?"
Well, it’s Te. Banter and dead-on characterization. And did I mention banter? Too perfect for words.
His Favorite by
kelexPairing: Devil/Stone
Rating: R
Summary: ‘Heaven doesn't want him and Hell's afraid he'll take over. What's a formerly damned soul to do.’
Too short to really be quotable, but excellent.
The Milton Variations by
ciceqi**
Pairing: Devil/Zeke
Rating: NC17, dubious consent
Summary: ‘Lead me not into temptation, for that would be taking a step backwards.’ And: ‘The Devil surveys his work and finds it good.’ For “All night the dreadless Angel” and “And season him they last and sweetest prey,” respectively.
But the Devil had laughed and told him that Milton had seen his angels best in the dark, then fucked him again until he forgot why he was arguing. It was days before he thought to go to the library, that odd statement returning to puzzle him at the strangest times.
Now he thinks of Milton, blind and speaking of angels to anyone who would listen and transcribe the tale, spinning poetry of things unseen. Twenty years of darkness, but closer to his God and the angels than he'd ever been in the light.
I’ve been dying to rec anything by Ciceqi/Ladonna King/Sleeps With Coyotes. I’ve followed her into more fandoms than I can count and I’ve never been disappointed. She plays with the dark and twisted sides of these characters and still manages to find exactly the right voices for them.
The Sins of the Lion by
applecameronPairing: Devil/Zeke
Rating: R
Summary: ‘A little non-cons-ish, but what do you expect when you're getting fucked over by the Devil?’
He was getting out of the shower, for Christ's sake, one fist holding his towel closed, but the Devil popped in whenever he felt like it. The theme of their conversation was always the same. Zeke the murderer, who took God's justice into his own hands. Pride and wrath and self-righteousness. His second chance, returning Hell's escapees. Blah-dee-blah-blah.
Yuletide is a beautiful thing.
Crossovers!
(good ones, though. Don’t worry.)
Nativity by
m_butterflyRating: PG-13
Fandoms: Brimstone/Dogma
Summary: ‘Eight and a half months after the end of Dogma, and there's no room at the Inn’
The taller of the auxiliary nuns nodded. "It came to the three of us in a dream, that we should go to the Wal-Mart on this day, for there would come a Demon, and a Hunter, and the Mother of God." The nuns all nodded, solemnly, and then the taller nun broke into a sudden nervous smile. "It's really been terribly exciting."
God this reminded me of Good Omens. It’s the next best thing, really, and matches these two fandoms perfectly. ::happy humor/fluff dance::
Aaaaaaand because Milkshake Butterfly just has the knack for these things,
Always the Possessor by
m_butterflyRating: R
Fandoms: Brimstone/Sandman
Summary: "Desire is everything you have ever wanted. Whoever you are. Whatever you are.
Everything." --Neil Gaiman, Sandman: Season of Mists
There's a sparkle in those golden eyes that says Desire knows the joke in its words, the inherent irony. 'Come into'? When has he ever not been in Desire's realm? There are levels and degrees, but if he's honest with himself....
He is not owned. He will never again be owned. Not after the last time, not after his fall. But if he were to admit that he belonged to any of the Endless--not that he ever will, but if he were to admit it....
Deep down inside, the Devil knows he has been Desire's since the very beginning.
I’m on a Neil Gaiman kick with these stories, obviously. Desire is so rarely dealt with and she does it *perfectly*, still managing to make this a character study. This is the kind of story that validates crossovers- being able to view familiar characters through another lens, examining the intricacies of their interactions with a fresh perspective.
Human by Te
thete1Rating: PG-13
Fandoms: Brimstone/X2
Pairing: Zeke, Kurt
Summary: 'Like calling to like.'
There is nothing in the man right now that speaks of anything but that certain peaceful faith. Emphasis on the certainty, even before he met Zeke. Even after.
Because this never would have occurred to me otherwise, although it fits so perfectly. Theology-as-characterization.
