Hn. Sick days seem to result in fic recs. Nice. (Though it would be nicer without the sickness.)
Harry Potter
The Root of All Midnight Blues by McKay (
scribbulus_ink)
Pairing: Snape/Lupin
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Severus doesn't want a relationship and considers love a notion for fools, but when Remus politely refuses his offer of a no-strings affair and begins seeing someone else, suddenly he starts to want what he can't have.
Quote: Downing another glass of scotch, he slumped in his chair by the fire and wondered if Remus was with That Daniel Person and if they were sleeping together yet.
McKay cracks me up and then immediately sobers me with teh hawt mansecks. *happysigh*
Useless Variations (Aria with Eight Variations) by blue
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Harry will come back. Eventually. Draco knows it. And he waits.
Quote: It will be on a first day of the week. It will be on a Monday.
I don't know how I should be feeling after reading this. The thing about Variation fics (or whatever they're actually called), is that the author has the power to give you fluff and then slap you with darkfic as soon as you get comfortable. I feel distraught, then I feel like I'm floating on a cloud. blue messes with you, but you have to love it anyway. (And Variation Seven kills. Which of course, makes me love it even more.)
The Way of the World by McKay (
scribbulus_ink)
Pairing: Snape/Lupin
Rating: NC-17
Summary: After the war, Remus tells the wizarding world to sod off and goes to live as a Muggle, and three years later, Severus comes looking for him, wanting to know how to do the same thing.
Quote: They glared and huffed at each other for a moment before Remus leaned over and hit the forward button, taking them back to the porn. Severus examined the page closely while Remus focused his attention on the curtains and noted that he should vacuum them soon, as they were looking dusty.
McKay cracks me up even more with this one. Snape encountering everyday Muggle things has to be one of the most hilarious things I have ever read. This is one of those fics that makes you throw back your head and laugh and laugh. And laugh some more. I adore it.
Pirates of the Caribbean
The Mermaid, part 1 by Rachel (
sinister_beauty)
Pairing: Anamaria/Elizabeth
Rating: NC-17
Summary: "Fidelity was a concept more used as a guideline than an actual rule in the marriage of William Turner and Elizabeth Swann."
Quote: "I have no idea what you're talking about," replied the blonde snappishly, turning her angry gaze back to the sloshing sea. She had a funny taste in her mouth. Tasted like nails. She was ready to spit.
The Secret Garden
Court and Spark by RhiannonRevolts (
rhipowered)
Pairing: Mary/Dickon
Rating: PG
Summary: The chill of winter can enter the bones, and the heart.
Quote: Such was life at Misselthwaite that winter. They were all playactors, all repeating the same role night after night, while the winds blew harder and harder. The next day Ben Weatherstaff would gather up the fallen branches and cut them up for firewood. And the next night, the three young people (for they were not exactly children any longer) would warm themselves by it and banter, trying to keep the cold away from their hearts.
This is so real. One of those fics that's so believable, it borders on canon.
Smallville
The Milk and Cookies War by Punk (
runpunkrun)
Pairing: Lex/Clark
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Lex Luthor's Penthouse for Wayward Boys.
Quote: In Lex's head, Clark's message sounds like this: "Hi, Lex. Is it okay if I come over tomorrow and drink milk in your kitchen without a shirt? Also, my pajama pants hang a little low so it'll be obvious I don't have any underwear on."
Excellent. And hilarious. Lex absolutely cracks me up (a lot of things have done that today, it would seem). Picking a quote was very difficult.
