This is the way all horror novels begin.

Fog, cold, cryptic words from an old tombstone, and restlessness.

annnnnd no one will listen, reads way too much, can be helpful

I just hope it doesn't end like one. We really don't need people to die to make it a scary Halloween.

Though it would be keeping within theme, I do agree. It would be foolish, with this much warning.

Even with the warning, they could probably sneak up on quite a few of us. We can't be on guard all week, and they're good at taking advantage of weaknesses.

Perhaps not, but there is a great deal to be said about not going looking for trouble.

[Though she purses her lips; her companions back in London would call her on that one. Quickly.]

And there's plenty of people here who will do just that. [SIGH]

This is going to be a very busy week, isn't it?

Precisely, though I may hazard a guess that you are more pragmatic, young miss?

[A hint of a smile.]

So it seems.

I get into enough trouble without looking for it. Actually, it usually comes looking for me, instead.

[She offers her own wane smile. Life is so stressful, sometimes.]

I can utterly sympathize.

[Ohhh yeah.]

I am Alexia Tarabotti. It is lovely to meet you.

If it's that widespread, I feel a little better about it. [She laughs a bit.]

I'm Kagome Higurashi. It's great to meet you, too, Alexia-san.

[That gets a smile out of Alexia, which softens her eyes a bit.]

Do these things happen to you often?

Well, it started on my fifteenth birthday. Since then, it's either been kidnapping, demons, fighting, or some combination of those. It's very exciting and I have great friends to help, but I can barely pass my classes with all of that interference.

That must be stressful.

[She means the classes.]

... would you be willing to tell me more about demons?

[Honestly, the classes are worse. She gives a slight nod.]

That's no problem. What do you want to know?

Anything. Most of my world no longer keeps the old faiths, which is generally where all demons are depicted. I have no proof of them existing in my own world.

Oh, you mean like Western demons? Oh, the ones in my world are different. They're more like spirits, really, and aren't any much more evil than people are. In fact, half of my friends I travel with are demons or half-demons.

A lot of the time, they're some kind of super-powered animal-- like a wolf, or a frog. They can take a human form if they're powerful enough.

That sounds more of the persuasion of vampires and werewolves in my world, though the two races both begin their lives as human beings.

Do tell me more?

[Bright and focused, interested.]
