i went to johor on my own today. and got lost in some ulu area. and then, found myself UNDER a big highway bridge, where a mini-settlement had formed. there were 4 areas in this lil 'village'. 1. there was an area with quaint wooden kampong houses. 2. and nearby that, there was a very small, clean and quiet mosque. 3. next to it there was a car wash manned by 4 very tanned men who looked like very honest hardworking men. 4. on the other side of the road, were 7 stalls surrounding a big area (as much as the width of the bridge) of tables and chairs. and surrounding this whole village, was vast empty land and dense vegetation.
and so, though i was lost, and shd be scared, i just found myself so curious by this settlement that i stopped and drove into the car wash. i had every confidence that id know how to get out of the area. eventually. the place was just so rural, i felt like i went into twilight zone. a place, under the bridge, untouched by time.
while waiting for the wash to be over, i took a few strides (im not kidding. a few strides) to the mosque to pray and spend some time with my Maker. the mosque was COMPLETELY empty. the ablution area was completely dry (meaning no one had been there for some time) and it was in the open (ie i could see vegetation everywhere and sunlight was just streaming through the ablution area's shelter). at first, i thought itd be eerie. but then, i felt very comfortable and at peace. but , i didn linger TOO long. my imagination went wild and convinced me that the door would suddenly jang shut and id be stuck there forever in twilight zone. but the feel of the sun on my skin when i went out of the mosque was very reassuring. that and the general atmosphere.
once that was done, i crossed the super deserted narrow road and went to the eatery. it was clean and surprisingly many ppl were eating there. a funny mix of ppl they were too. some weren malay, some were wearing work clothes complete w suit, some were mere teenagers, etc. it was a really strange place to be! and then, there were even some chickens roaming around the eating place just like how you'd find stray cats. :S i ordered tom yam, and goreng pisang, waited for them and went back to the car. gave them a few bucks more to which they immediately went over to the other side to buy smtg, and i went off.
i dont think id ever be able to find this place again! it certainly was a v interesting experience. a REAL olden day village under a bridge. i really feel like id stepped into some twilight zone. or maybe im just jakun. haha.
