And LJ cut is a way to 'hide' a large portion of text so that it doesn't distort the look of the community.

What you need to do is go to edit your entry, click on the 'html' tag on the entry box, and then, after your header and before the text of your fic, put < lj - cut > without spaces. Then save, and this should take care of it.
