Well as my last show of choice Heroes is completely up to date and I have downloaded and watched all of the episodes , I thought it was time to move on to cramming in the next show. :)
I know I mentioned some choices in one of my previous entries that I was gonna go for next but I have decided a small change is in order, and this is the new plan of action !
I have picked 40 TV shows that I have always wanted to watch or have partly watched , and I have set myself a challenge and that is to try and download and watch all of these 40 shows before the end of the year.
I have worked it out and of the shows that I wanna watch there are about 183 Seasons in total , which when I look at it seems really scary, but it is only roughly one show a week, which although is pretty tough, with all the spare time I have on my hands is something that may be achievable.
Anyway I am gonna keep my LJ updated with each show as and when I watch it !!
This week I have watched Seasons 1 & 2 of Rome and the first 2 Episodes of The Tudors, under the cut is what I think of both !!
To set the background a little I studied History at college and specialized in the Tudor period so I am not usually a fan of historical dramas/adaptations because they usually get it so historically inaccurate that it actually hurts. I am always prepared to give a show a chance in the name of artistic license so I thought what the heck, I will give them a go.
Rome - I really thought I was gonna hate this show, I had heard that it was a usual "HBO special" where everything and anything has to be about sex.I was actually more then pleasantly surprised and have found myself falling in love with this show and actually being quite gutted that they will not be making any more seasons. Of course there are so many historical errors in this show that it would make any Roman Historian turn in their grave, but what it lacks in facts it makes up for in totally vile and horrid characters who you just love to hate ,and I can tell you now I can't get enough of this show. I have downloaded and watched both seasons in 5 days because I have spent any spare minute I have watching it,. I would recommend anyone who hasn't seen it to give it a go, you may be pleasantly surprised. 3 out of 10 for the History lesson, 9 out of 10 for being so graphic and depraved !! he he
The Tudors - Why do I do it to myself, the second I saw this show advertised I knew I was gonna hate it. As far as I am concerned Tudor History should be left to the English to do ,end of story, but as I am a glutton for punishment I knew I just had to watch it to see how totally awful it really was. Well I was not wrong because although I am prepared to accept some artistic license this show goes way above and beyond that and I feel makes a mockery of it all. Now don't get me wrong Henry 8th was a vile man in many parts of his life but also a King who set a lot of precedent for things that have changed and shaped history today. Now I am not heading up the "I love Henry" fan club here I just have a great passion for this period and it pains me to watch such badly hashed together nonsense. I know, I know it is a TV show and it is supposed to be entertaining, but dear god please at least try and make it convincing. I am aware it is aimed at an American audience who I appreciate might not know that much about this time period (No offense I know nothing of American history !!) but does it really need to be so patronizing. I will continue to watch it purely because once started I need to see something through to the end, I just hope and pray I don't feel like ripping my eyes out with my bare hands before then !!! he he
