National Poetry Month - April 1st: Fool

Apr 02, 2010 18:15

A friend and I decided to write a poem a day. We set out random prompts for each day of the month and we meet up online at the end of the day to compare, to merge, or to just edit. Here is yesterday's piece.

April 1st: Fool

The first utterance, amicably accepted
Anxiety begs of you to get the feel
A nod here, a smile there.
A cordial handshake to seal the deal.

The second glance, widened eyes and strained formality
Words of insignificant brilliance and branded humility
Expressions of bitter truth, soiled pride, and perfect vanity
Feelings of dissension procrastinating silently
Finally, a slap to the cheek to highlight the inconsistency.

The third encounter, a scoff to introduce a fool.
The parting of paths, a smirk to brand the tool.
The masks you wear to continue this dance.
And you wonder why love won't give you a chance
