[A slip of silvery white in the darkness is revealed to be Cassandra, slowly walking through the fray. She seems almost completely oblivious to the carnage going on around her. Her dark eyes shine in the moonlight as she stares straight ahead, walking purposefully, although just where she intends to go is a bit of a mystery.]

[Apollo stands at a distance from everyone, a mere observer. He has no desire to be involved. He's seen more than enough wars. In fact, he's thinking about turning away when--]

Cassandra?

[She turns to look at him. There is a wildness to her eyes, unlike the madness she played in Troy. This is more of a wild look, a hungry look. It is quite unlike her. She works her mouth, as if trying to say something, but no sound comes out. There is, however, a gleam of white moonlight against her rather noticeable canines.]

[Cassandra doesn't look like herself. He can spot that right away, but he doesn't know what's different. His eyes narrows as he examines her]

Is something wrong?

[He's just about to approach her when he sees it. The teeth. Oh no, Cassandra. What did you do?]

[Her breath is coming out faster and faster and she doesn't really know why. Strange feelings swirl around in her chest; lust, or perhaps an insatiable longing or maybe hunger. Yes, that's what it is, hunger. And then, a startling moment of clarity, recognition. Of sorts.]

The touch of God...

[Four little words with so much weight behind them. That brief, shimmering moment of understanding is lost in a haze behind Cassandra's eyes. She is craving something...an end to her pain...and he has it...]

[ It's proof of how concerned Apollo is that he doesn't make a comment about being a god that wouldn't mind touching her. ]

What happened? Who--did someone turn you?

[Cassandra shakes her head slightly. The question doesn't make much sense to her right now. Her senses are too busy burning her like fire. Everything hurts now, and that ache inside of her won't go away. But he can get rid of it. He's the end.]

You can make it stop.

[Her voice sounds like it's coming from very far away. But even the act of speaking causes a painful wave to throb through her. There's desperation in her eyes. He has to make it stop.]

[ He watches her uncertainly, debating what the best move to make would be. He remembers stories of those who were confronted by wolves in the wild. Predatory animals. Being told the best move is to raise your arms, make yourself seem bigger than you are. Somehow, that seems ridiculous now. ]

Come here.

He holds out his hand to her, eyes remaining locked on hers. ]

[She stares at his hand. Whatever small memory of not wanting to be touched is quickly quelled in the face of an end to the hunger. The touch of God will destroy her. That's what they said. That's what they promised. That's what she'll have. It's funny that now, at the end, her voice reverts to childhood.]

Goodbye.

[She slips her fingers into his hand.]

[ The expression he watches her with is an unguarded look of sadness. There's no reason to shield himself, to put on a mask. The game that the two of them had been playing was over now. He knows he should kill her, just end it for her now. Instead, he gives her fingers a reassuring squeeze. A forced smile. ]

Go ahead.

[ How can he? It's Cassandra. ]

[Cassandra seems confused, furrowing up her brow. This isn't right. She touched his hand, she should be gone now (or feeling something else that she's forgotten how to feel...). Why is it that life always insists on going on? It's not fair. It's too much.]

Do it.

[Her tone is sharp and demanding, almost like an animal's snarl. It's him. He's the one controlling her. He can make it stop. The hunger is getting worse and worse.]

[ Do it? What is it that she expects him to do? Drive a spear through his throat and offer it up to her? ]

Cassandra. You're going to be okay.

[ He tries to to sound as reassuring as he can, but his voice quavers a bit at the last few syllables. ]

[She lets a growl, slamming both of her hands into his shoulders and glaring, any hints of human intellect dissolving like salt in water. Moonlight catches on those fangs of hers, looking menacing.]

The touch of God! That's what he said. The touch of God destroys me! I'm waiting!

[She grabs one of his hands again with surprising strength.]

Do it!

[ If he is surprised by her sudden strength, he doesn't show it. ]

It's too late to save you now, Swan.

[ He watches her as though is heart is breaking. ]

It's always too late for me to save you.

[Unacceptable! At least, it would be if that word held any meaning for her now. But she didn't know words right now. All Cassandra knew was that hunger and the fact that he couldn't make it go away. Well, not with death at any rate.]

[She let out a scream that was both frightening and a little scary. Her instincts, new though they were, told her body what to do. She lunged at Apollo, seizing hold of his arms with bruising force. After that, she found it surprisingly easy to plunge her teeth into his neck.]

[ It was appropriate, he thought through the searing pain, that it should end this way. It had been written in the stars, long long ago. His eyes closed and distantly, he wondered whose voice he heard screaming. ]
