McNeill could tell that this guy was definitely the tech type. There was nothing wrong with that, but it was kind of funny to experience, after dealing with the culture shock of this place. Most people didn't even know that robotic prosthetics were even possible, which only served to make McNeill a little.. concerned.

But, this guy seemed to know what he was talking about. Good thing, too. If McNeill was coming out of retirement, he'd need his dominate hand. And even if he changed his mind, it was a Goddamn hand; he'd really start thinking he lost his mind if he was going to pass up the opportunity to get a new one.

When he heard Simmons knock, McNeill got up from his chair, setting the Junogam down on the table. "Coming!" He called back, walking over to let Simmons in.

"Hey, thanks for coming up on such short notice," McNeill greeted as the door opened, stepping back to let him inside.

McNeill had been about what Simmons had expected, except maybe a bit older than he'd anticipated. The fact that this guy had cut his own hand off for reasons they weren't going to get into had made him a little nervous about his mental state but his eagerness to do something that actually interested him had won out in the end ( ... )

McNeill was a little surprised by Simmons' appearance, if anything, but there was no trace of that on his face. He seemed kind of... young to be doing something like this, but McNeill wasn't about to judge if he was capable. Even the excited way he was talking about it made McNeill feel old. He scratched at his face and cracked a lopsided smirk as the other man started laying out the plans. "Well, I'm glad I could give you something to look forward to ( ... )

He nodded to McNeill's question and lowered his arm finally. "Yup. Provided we find enough pieces, it should be simple to construct something similar." It would just boil down to the hookup and Simmons had already started to consider their options. It depended largely on where the cut had been made- it was probably too much to hope for a joint to work with- and that reminded him to look at McNeill's arm to inspect ( ... )

McNeill could barely get a word out before Simmons' questions bombarded him. He blinked, looking over his shoulder at the other man. Was it really that strange? Man, and McNeill had been hoping that this guy would have a vague familiarity with RIG units ( ... )

As McNeill explained the ins and outs of his RIG, Simmons couldn't help but be impressed. It was one thing to have a system for gauging general health, it was another to design something that took that data and made it simple enough to judge at a glance. "That's so cool!" Simmons wasn't about to stop nerding out now, and really why would he?

The fact it injected painkillers was pretty impressive, but that didn't hold a candle to what McNeill did next. He stared with wide-eyed shock as McNeill demonstrated his Kinesis ability- amazed with the technology the guy had at his disposal. "-nevermind, that is really fucking cool. How does it work? What's its range? Can it work on living things as well as inanimate objects? How long can you use it at a time?" Simmons was buzzing with questions, apparently, and he sort of regretted that this situation probably wouldn't give him something like that of his own to play around with ( ... )

"Woah, woah...!" McNeill couldn't help but laugh a little more obviously then, though the sound was clearly lighthearted. "That's a lot of questions... But, uh..." Let's see... where to start? "Basically, it creates an artificial gravity field. I haven't used it much lately.. haven't had the need to. Its range varies between users... Mine could probably reach well across the room.. Then again, this is a small room ( ... )

Simmons really couldn't help himself, it just wasn't that often that he got to see new and exciting technology. The shit they had at the base was the same boring crap it had always been- even since moving to Valhalla the most exciting change had been the holo-room ( ... )

Once the RIG was taken out, McNeill felt a little.. unstable on his feet. "Whew. I'm not used to taking that out anymore." When he was certain that Simmons had a good hold on it, he moved to sit on the edge of the table. "Here, you can put it down on the table."

Pressing his hand to his face, McNeill nodded. "Yeah, that's exactly right. It slows down moving objects. It was designed with engineers and miners in mind."

Anyway, once McNeill felt a little more confident to stand up, he pushed off the table, then grabbed a chair. Turning it around, he sat on it backward, letting his arms rest on the back of the chair with his back turned to Simmons. "Anyway, the port should be on my back somewhere, I'd imagine." He had no reason to use any ports, so he wasn't 100% on what was back there.

Once it was free of McNeill's back, Simmons carefully set the RIG down on the table as instructed. He couldn't help but look it over now that it was removed from McNeill's spine, a little amazed that it had so few connections to hook up. It had looked flush against McNeill's back when it was on so the connections had to be pretty secure ( ... )
