True to her word, she had promised her sister she would help the other stragglers. She didn't exactly trust them, no, but Sister's word was absolute. She would prove she could be trusted, and then sister would love her! At least a little. She saw someone- he was talking to himself, but the words he was speaking made no sense to her. She stepped out of the shadows and approached calmly.

"Are you lost as well- ah, I mean-" She hadn't meant to imply she was lost. "Are you new?" She tried to correct herself and sound as if she herself was not at all lost. It didn't work so well, though.

He started to bring his blaster up almost reflexively, but once he got a better look at the girl who'd just spoken, Davin relaxed a bit and dropped it back to pointing at the ground.

Maybe he really was hallucinating. Trees and girls had both been pretty high up on the list of things he missed since getting posted to Tatooine, after all.

"I'm very lost," he admitted, his confusion obvious even through the mechanical voice filter of his helmet.

"Don't point that at me," she said crossly, looking ruffled. "The enemies are elsewhere. My sister sent me to protect the other people who are lost." She sounded quite proud of this mission, and even looked a bit confident when she spoke.

"There's a village up ahead with no people in it, so we should all head there. I guess you don't have anyone else with you."

-- okay, then again, maybe if he was hallucinating about girls, you'd think he'd come up with one who was a little more...easy-going, right?

This got weirder by the minute.

"Do you know where we are? There shouldn't be a forest within at least fifty light years of Tatooine, but this..."

funny thing is she lives in a desert world too psycheosis July 27 2010, 19:16:19 UTC
Her expression softened, but just a little. "We're not on Tatooine, because I've definitely never been there." She couldn't help adding, "... What's that world like?"

She was also carrying a massive golden hammer that looked heavy enough that he himself probably couldn't lift it, let alone wave it around like she was.

"-- My name's Metis. We should hurry over to where Sister told me to wait."

"Desert. Nothing but desert in every direction. Two suns, brutally hot, about as far from anything important as you can get in the galaxy." Which wasn't quite true, perhaps -- there had been those droids, something important enough that Lord Vader's flagship had come out there personally in pursuit, but that was a fluke that could've happened over any planet in the galaxy. It didn't say anything about the importance of Tatooine itself.

He realized his superiors probably would've frowned to see him getting so chatty, especially with an apparent civilian, but it felt good to talk to someone who just reacted as if he was a normal person. When was the last time anyone had looked at him as anything but just another stormtrooper? Metis didn't seem bothered at all.

It was refreshing.

"I'm Davin." Something else they would've frowned at, using his name and not his operating number -- but he couldn't bring himself to care. "You're probably right. Let's move."

Metis looked thoughtful. That sounded a lot like where she was from, although she had never exactly seen the Sun before. She supposed that was the big hot thing shining down on them. She couldn't imagine two of those. They were awfully large, would there be space in the sky?

The bot pondered stuff like that for a moment before running after Davin. "W-Wait up...!"

She grabbed her hammer and hurried after him.

"It's hard to talk to you with that helmet on, you know." She said. She found it annoying he wouldn't show his face, like he had something to hide.

That was a bit surprising. He was used to people being bothered by the helmet, sure -- but being put off entirely by it, not wanting to see who he was under it. But if he took it off now, it'd be one more thing to carry, and if they were attacked en route, that could get awkward.

"I'd rather have my hands free in case anything comes after us on the way over," he said, almost apologetically. He paused for a moment, then added, "But once we find that village, I'll take it off. Deal?"

Of course, Metis had perks as a machine. She paused in the midst of her conversation with Davin, agreeing to his offer. But then as they approached where Kevin was lurking, she got a bad vibe, and looked straight at his hiding place. Maybe it was because she had excellent hearing with that bizarre headpiece, or she was just especially sensitive to the presence of others after living alone in the Abyss of Time- either way, she glared toward him.

"... Show yourself." She had the hammer if there was a monster in there. "Careful Davin, this might be one of the wolves I'd heard about."

...yeah, definitely a good thing he kept his hands free for that blaster. He didn't aim directly at the point Metis was staring at; if it was another person there and not some local wildlife, he'd really rather not shoot unless he had to.

But he was ready to fire, if it came to that.

"I knew it," Metis said with a stern glance. "You can't be sneaking around. We should all stick together until the Caravan arrives. Sister said so." It was always the same with Metis in her current state of mind. She couldn't help it. Inside she was increibly nervous about how uncertain her reunion with Aigis was, but she had to have faith if nothing else. And she had to do what Aigis had asked.

"We're heading to a village a little further away. Are you coming?"

As far as it was concerned, they were going no where. When one enters its forest, one is not expected to simply leave. Its forest, its meal. There was the slow sound of something slithering against the forest floor and the echoing creak of old wood. Leaves rustled overtop, and several fell down amongst the visitors - nay, prey - in some mockery of a dance. Nearby, a fat chipmunk was in the midst of stuffing seeds into its mouth, and gave the group a weary side-eye before scurrying up a nearby overgrown fern.

Davin stopped, holding a hand up to the other two for a moment to indicate that he was trying to listen. It was hard to be certain, but something about that sounded less like ordinary forest background noises and more like something -- maybe something big -- was moving.

"We should keep moving," he said quietly. "I think we're about to have company."

Sithspit, he wished he knew where he was. A thorough briefing on the local environmental hazards was part of standard procedure before deployment; he hadn't truly realized until now just how valuable that kind of forewarning was. It would've been nice if he could at least make an educated guess about whether they were about to deal with garrals or vornskrs or what.
