There was so much to worry about and take in that it was almost a relief to be confronted with someone Shirley felt compelled to talk to. It made things a little easier, to set the big picture aside and simply ask someone-
It's hard to believe one might feel compelled to talk to a towering, cranky looking man stalking through the streets muttering 'annoyedannoyedannoyed' under his breath. But at least it seems that his irritation has nothing to do with you, since he the muttering drops off and the glare eases off when he turns to her.
Oh, good; Shirley feels some of her nervousness ebb away when he turns to her. The truth is, she'd been a little scared, but she couldn't let that get in the way of someone who might need help . . . maybe.
Shirley's starting to feel a little silly; he seemed so much calmer and normal now that they were talking, and maybe he really didn't mind his head being all wet like that.
Shirley laughs, a bit sheepish; everyone really was in the same situation, and so it wasn't as bad as it might have been, though she still felt alone without Senel and the others.
His wrist looks a bit painful, even if he's not acknowledging it. More and more, something about his brusque, annoyed, stoic demeanor was reminding Shirley of the boys back home.
"Do you need that taken care of? . . . And I wish I knew, but I don't think anyone does. I've seen a lot of people who look as lost as we do."
Cid? After a moment's thought, Shirley placed the name; the influx of information she'd been presented with when she woke up in the village had been too much to really wrap her mind around, but the mention of the long journey home was unforgettable.
Shirley shook her head. If she'd been told, it had gotten lost with everything else she'd been trying to remember and account for. "I'm sorry. I'm not even quite sure where we are right now."
"Um, excuse me . . . "

Turns his wrist and she can see he actually gave himself a pretty solid red welt in the process. Not that he seems to care.
"What the hell's up with this place..."

"It's fine. And I heard about some Cid guy saying he can get us home."

"The caravan?"

Shizuo wondered where this Cid guy was. Apparently everyone else had heard about him. He'd have to track him down.
"I just heard about him from some kid. You know where to find him?"

So much for that. Shizuo shakes the ashes off a dying cigarette and puts it away in the trash folder he keeps on him.
"This plan he's got had better work."
