That sort of explained why she was giving Diana a chance to explain herself in the first place.
God knew Cid Amon was absolutely helpless at explaining motive or incentive, and while this might not be the answer to all her questions, interrogating people had always been something Lightning had her confidence in. If not by finding direct answers, she'd at least be able to get a good hold on who she was dealing with, and if anything they said had a grain of truth to it.
She approached the door, stopping once to check herself for all her belongings and equipment. She had brought her gun blade and her survival dagger, both holstered and strapped to their appropriate sheathes but she wasn't expecting any confrontations of that nature. Still, it was always a good idea to be safe and Lightning wouldn't be a Sergeant if she dared to go anywhere unarmed.
She knocked once on the door, her knuckles tapping against the solid wood in a swift, concise movement, and she stepped back, waiting to be let in.

Right away, Diana had the impression of a woman who was just as much of a warrior as she herself was. There was the aura of battle around her, and now she realized the efficiency that she operated at. Only a few words had been exchanged before the woman had demanded the truth of Diana's truth. There was a mutual understanding between them for that, even if the other woman did not feel it.
She stood aside to allow her to enter, but immediately offered her hand to shake. "Welcome, fellow traveler. I am Diana, Princess of Theymscira."
Reply
"Lightning. Lightning Farron."
She extended her arm and gave Diana a solid handshake, letting go as soon as it was over to step into the room. She shut the door behind her as she came in and let her gaze wander to the lasso at her arm.
Now, straight to business.
"I take it that's the lasso in question?"
It seemed ordinary, by all means, nothing fancy and lacking the buttons or mechanics she had envisioned it to have. As she was coming over to meet her, Lightning had been making possible theories as to how any device could flawlessly rip the truth out of someone. Most of her hypothesis' lead her to believe it would be a device that could detect accelerated heart beat, since that was the only technique she had ever been familiar with and the only one she could conclude from a logical, reasonable viewpoint.
She crossed her arms and looked back at Diana, trying to keep the preconceived judgment from clouding her eyes as she waited for the demonstration to start.

If Diana saw that judgment, she did not show it. She did not mind if people judged her--she had grown accustomed to it, especially in recent years. But it was also perfectly reasonable that people question her here. Not all worlds had Gods as close to mortals as her own, nor were they so closely linked to magic.
She handed one end of the lasso to Lightning to hold, and once she had taken it, wrapped it simply around her shoulders. It was no different in feeling from a regular rope on her skin, but it reached far deeper than that. The lasso's "fires" were warm and pleasant, spreading from somewhere deep inside of her. It was a calmness and feeling of security that dispelled all senses of unease. It had calmed mad beasts, so powerful was its sense of security.
Diana tightened the rope slightly around her shoulders, and it brought the truth from deep inside along with that peace. "Lightning, I must ask you a personal question so that you can understand how powerful the lasso is. I do promise you that your answer will leave this room. So, Lightning, please tell me of an event where you feel that you've failed others and yourself."

But still. This was completely necessary if she wanted to find out the truth, and with that reminder in place, she stood still without making any sudden movements.
After the burst of adrenaline slowly faded, Lightning felt a bit more at ease. Maybe more so than usual, but she wasn't sure if it was the heat from the rope or something else entirely. Her vice-like grip on her crossed arms loosened and the small bundle of nerves in her abdomen dissolved.
There was a moment of silence after Diana spoke, and Lightning took a long time before responding. She had never been one to share stories or tell secrets, let alone discuss personal feelings but there was a calming quality to her voice and she noted with some mild distress that her emotional walls and defenses were beginning to crumble. Soon enough, there were no reasons she could come up with not to answer the request, and maybe, just maybe it would feel better to talk about it. After all, it had been occupying so much headspace in Lightning's mind that the thought of letting it go, even momentarily, was a relieving one.
"...I had a sister back home."
She winced slightly at the past tense. Had. She still had Serah, didn't she? And she would have her back, too, as soon as she went back home and completed her focus. As soon as she went back home and saved Cocoon. As soon as Serah awoke from her crystallization.
"I'm the only one she has left. When she told me she became a L'Cie, I didn't believe her. I was mad at her, upset that she would try to come up with such a ridiculous story just so she could run into the arms of some stupid oaf. Running to him meant she was running from me, and I didn't want to accept that. I told her to leave, and she did, and she got caught because of me."
Her eyes glazed over, lost in the memories of days that had blurred from the series of events that happened after. She could remember how hot her face felt when she yelled at Serah over the dinner table on her twenty-first birthday, how furious she felt that Serah was lying about something so serious.
"But she wasn't lying. And because of what I said, I lost her. She got caught and purged, and by the time I found out the truth, it was too late. I dragged Snow and Sazh into becoming L'cie and I put us into even more trouble by being too upset to deal with the reality of the situation."
She scoffed then, turning her head to face the wall, eyes boring straight into the wallpaper as if it could see beyond it.
"...if only I believed her the first time."

"Thank you, Sister. I am sorry for your loss."
Amazons were warriors, but there was also the deep idea of sisterhood. All women were Diana's sisters, and her calm professionalism would fall when one of her sisters was in need.

There wasn't much time to recover though, before she felt Diana's arms around her and she once again fought to instinct to push back. She couldn't keep from stiffening up though, returning to the straight posture and defiant stance she took when she first stepped into the room.
Amazing. There had been so few things that could bother shocking her or even leave her with a bit of awe but the embarrassing, heartfelt answer she just provided proved enough of an answer to her doubts. She couldn't help but feel a grain of uneasiness though, what other powers was that lasso imbued with? Was there something more to it? She had a hard time believing that it was a weapon that wouldn't be exploited at some point or another, and she just hoped that Diana was strong enough to fend off any interested takers.
"It's fine."
She finally uncrossed her arms and let her arms fall to her side.
"...I've never seen anything like that lasso. It looks like it could do a lot of damage in the wrong hands."
It was a statement, but Lightning posed it as a question. She was curious about it, and she wanted to ask more without coming off as offensive or mistrustful. Not that she wasn't mistrustful by nature, but she felt that Diana had no reason to lie at this point.

"It could, and it has. But it cannot be wielded by most people. It is very closely connected to my being, so when most others attempt it, it will burn their hands. When I myself have been corrupted through various means, it has burned my own hands."
It was never because of her own failing, but rather, because of magic that had inflicted her. It had happened recently, when her hand had been corrupted and become demon like--the lasso would not need her call.
"Those without pure intentions will find themselves unable to use it."

She stood for a second longer, reluctant to sit before eventually taking the offer. She sat still though, on the edge of her seat as if ready for any immediate, further action.
Again, Diana really had no reason to lie about the capabilities of the lasso but her statement implied that it had a state of mind, or at least, that the weapon was conscious of the person who was holding it. The thought was a bit mind-boogling, and Lightning couldn't help but feel doubtful.
"Where exactly are you from? And are weapons like that common in your world?"
Reply
"I am an Amazon from Earth. The Amazons are a race of immortal women who have been graced by the Gods. We lived on our own island, isolated from the world, but I was chosen as their ambassador and champion to venture out into the world. There, I became known as Wonder Woman, and became a superhero that worked not only to protect the people, but to spread the Amazonian message of peace. Weapons like this, that pull the truth, are uncommon. But divine weapons or artifacts are somewhat more common," she explained. The first that she thought of was Dr. Fate's helmet, but attempting to explain that would only confuse her more.
"I live in a world of men and women with the powers of Gods and the courage to fight selflessly, even if it means death. I have died myself, but death is often odd for the heroes of my world."

She nodded when Diana concluded her explanation, moving down the list then on the topics she wanted to breach before she left her to her privacy.
"You mentioned something about a Defense Force?"

Diana took the list of names and handed it to Lightning. It was an assortment of names (though some were just aliases) paired with each person's abilities whether they were practical or unusual, such as her own lasso.
"I have been compiling a list of those interested, as well as their skills. Even if the idea of such an organized force is opposed, knowing which members of our Caravan are capable fighters or doctors is valuable information. I am also hoping to work in cooperation with Cid Amon so that we can enforce some kind of law, as proposed by Miles Edgeworth, a prosecutor."

She handed the list back to Diana.
"You can sign me up then. I'm more than capable in combat with artillery, weapons, hand-to-hand battle, and...some magic."
She wasn't sure how to explain the L'cie powers or the special advantages she had in battle with them, and she didn't think it was a good idea to spill the beans about her power to summon Odin either. Lightning would wait it out, keeping that bit of info to herself unless a time came where she would have to show her hand.

"Thank you, Lightning. Your generosity is appreciated by all," she said warmly. But it was back to business quickly. "What manner of magic are you capable of, here? Many have had it diminished or taken away, so assessing just what you are able to do is quite important. Being from somewhat...magical origins myself, I am also sure that magic differs greatly between the worlds we have here."
Indeed, the list of magic users she had compiled had a wide range of abilities. It was advantageous, of course, but still worth noting.

She summoned a small amount of it in her hand, balancing a tiny flicker of fire in her palm as she activated her powers. She snapped her fingers and changed it to ice, then to lightning, and then to a tiny whirlwind of wind.
"It can be inflict damage within a large radius if I need it to, though it takes longer than just calling for a single strike on one target only."

"How interesting. That amount of control is quite impressive--I rarely see it in my world. Thank you for showing me," she said graciously, setting the paper aside once more.
"Do you have any other questions, Lightning?"
