Summary: Dojima is acting pretty craycray and is also fresh out of the hospital - or so Adachi thinks. Solution: ask a nurse to check it out.
Out of all the crazy things Adachi had heard coming out of his boss's mouth in the past year or so, "Last thing I remember, I was reading Nanako a bedtime story" was the craziest. And if that weren't perplexing enough, there's also the fact that he's treating Adachi like there's something wrong or just plain off, and the worst part is, he won't even talk about it, just stare at him with his brow knitted.
(Though he can't say much, either - Adachi has still failed to mention the little detail that hey, Dojima-san's daughter is dead. Who wants that kind of reminder? He knew Dojima was an escapist, but to have already repressed the memory completely is a little worrying, even to someone like Adachi who finds it hard to care about anyone other than himself.)
Adachi must have something there, though, perhaps composed of regret and a million other things he's repressing himself, or he wouldn't have asked Miss Mochizuki to take a look at him. That, and god knows it'll be his ass on the line if it turns out there really is something wrong and he neglected to have it looked at. Dojima's far too stubborn to have it checked out himself. For once, Adachi's pursuing his own answers.
The first order of business is to find Dojima, which shouldn't be hard, since he was so adamant about keeping Adachi in his general line of sight. He's standing in the second district outside a clothes store, and he's got his hand over his eyes like a visor trying to block out the shade and search for Dojima in the distance. Maybe if he'd pay less attention to the sun and more attention where he's going, he wouldn't - "ouch!" - stub his toe on an outdoor rack display.
