Today was my second day of work. I really think I'm going to like my job. Everyone is wicked friendly. My problem is challenging, and I probably won't actually be able come up with a solution, but I think I can make progress and have some fun along the way. This will definitely be a lot more interesting than the other jobs I've had, which were all pretty repetitive. This job requires about an hour and a half commute each way, but I think it's worth it.

I've spent these last couple days going over the reports and code of previous WPI interns, but it's frustrating. Their grammar makes me cringe, and it's hard to trust the knowledge of students who say things like, "when the two objects are not coplanar, which is often..." I think that it's a mistake for WPI not to require basic English and writing classes. Their code is also really poorly written, but they were engineering majors, so I can understand that (no offense to any of you ME or ECE guys out there). Things will pick up a bit tomorrow when my project partner and I make a trip to the library for some better material.

Security is pretty tight. I can't bring my flash drives, my laptop, my mp3 player (because it has a microphone), or my cell phone. All of the numbers for my project have to come from simulations, since numbers from real life are classified. There are lots of cool talks offered every couple days to employees, but most of the interesting ones are also classified. Bah. On the bright side, my project partner and I get a huge office to ourselves, with our names on the outside of the door and everything. (I'd take a picture, but cameras obviously aren't allowed.)

I'm so glad I worked up the courage to apply to this, though. Thank you to all of you who offered encouragement or who kicked my ass when I was about to chicken out.

P.S. I've had to get up insanely early to go to work lately, so it's entirely possible that this entry, in which I complain about WPI students' grammar, contains some grammar errors. I apologize.
