Hi everyone!! Welcome to my 'Top 25 Tracks of 2006' list (w/downloadable songs!) These are the songs that have added so much more fun, passion, and emotion into a very fun, passionate, and emotional year. Almost all of the songs on here are on here because they are so capable of altering my mood and placing me in a completely different mind state during and after a listen. For instance...(and this has happened before)...going from Wayne's "Stuntin' like my Daddy" to Billy's "ebb tide" shifts my mood from [Ultra-Energetic: You've got nothin' on me] i.e. "...sure you can leave your number on my shelf girl...i'll file it in the queue...call you in about 6 weeks" to [Pensive, Subtle, Somber, Soft] i.e. "How does a being like me get so fortunate so as to even revel in a brush of shoulders with you".
Here's the kicker...all these songs are on a very convenient place online!! For you to download!!

1. bonnie 'prince' billy - ebb tide
[Even Will Oldham (bonnie 'prince' billy) would probably be confused at this choice as my favorite song of the year. A hidden track and very likely the least accessible track on "The Letting Go"...one of the best albums of the year. Many will ask...could this song even be called a song? How could this not be boring to you? And all I hear is a purely minimalistic, remarkably beautiful track that is astonishingly mood altering. For Will's sake and for yours, I've included some of the other wonderful songs on this album in an "Honorable Mentions" zip...but this one takes the cake for me.]
2. kelis feat. too short- bossy
[How many people hated this song the first 5 times they heard it? Me too. However, after it grew on me...I couldn't shake it. An utlra-addicting beat and so fun to dance to...I associate this song with many fun times at many a dancing occasions. Dancing one on one with girls to this song is way a treat too...cause they get in the 'confident I'm the boss nothing can stop me' mood and seem so happy dancing to it...and I get into the 'bout time that she get with me I'm invincible' mood...so boss-y.]
3. rich boy - throw some ds
[You know the breakdown part of songs? Yeah...somehow they engineered this song to sound like a breakdown the whole way through. Best song to drive to.]
4. the knife - marble house
[Creepy, catchy, and different. Every song I've heard by The Knife is so enjoyable in a very weird way. My little sister and I sing along with this song daily.]
5. the blow - come on petunia
["and I'm pretty sure baby if you'd hold my hand I could live like I've wished for and undo my dread" magical lyrics, magical melody. Side Note: A while back this girl performed with Mirah in SLO and needed a place to stay the night...and we (Nathan, Vinu, and I) gave her Nathan's number in case she couldn't find any other place...it was so cool how carefree they were and down to earth.]
6. camera obscura - let's get out of this country
[Oh TracyAnne...your voice and lyrics and so sweet...may I drink tea with you?]
7. tujiko noriko - marble waltz
[So technically this song was released in 2002...but it was rereleased this year...and really I would doubt if more than a couple people in the US had heard it in 2002. Absolutely haunting and beautiful. Completely mood altering...the world turns blatantly robotic and doll-like with each listen. 'odori...nakara']
8. j dilla - time: the donuts of the heart
[Thanks to Jordan for introducing me to this one. 1 minute and 38 seconds of some of the most brilliant, introspective, passionate production ever. It's as if J gives you X-Ray glasses and lets you see clear to his emotions through this song. Sultry yet subtle...it makes me envision making it inside after a rainy downpour...exchanging eye contact...embracing arms...losing track of time. What do you envision?]
9. lil' wayne and birdman- stuntin' like my daddy
[My favorite part of the song makes me imagine this scene of lil' wayne's thoughts while planning this part of the song: "Ok I got it I got it. I'll say 'show me my opponent' then I will make crunching sounds as if I am eating my opponent...then I will say 'show me my opponent' again as if that opponent was being chewed as I rappin'. Young Carter...you're brilliant" Seriously...the smartest fun lyrics in the game.]
10. lil' jon - snap your fingers
[This song very likely made many "Worst 10 songs of the Year" lists. Still...they could play this song three times in a row at a club and I would not be bored...heck I'm sitting in a chair and if you played it now I would start dancing. It has some kind of secret power! "what's happenin'? what's up?"]
11. band of horses - part one
[Sure they sound a bit like My Morning Jacket...but My Morning Jacket sounds awesome...and so do Band of Horses! Sweet, honest lyrics.]
12. girl talk - too deep
[Imagine a DJ playing the best parts of some pretty fun songs...together...in one track...and making it work...reminds me of the saying 'the sum of its parts is greater than the whole']
13. cherish feat. sean paul & young bloodz - do it to it
['this a hood dance' 'nuff said.]
14. cassie - me & u
[wow...I can't say enough about this song. This song could easily be #1. The only reason it isn't is because it is a 'dance-like' song that I didn't really hear on the dance floor that much...thus didn't get attached to as much. Really though...you could play this song for cavemen...and they would get into the beat...more than any other song on here. Such a simple, minimalistic, yet profound beat.]
15. mates of state - punchlines
[Mates of State are certainly an acquired taste...but after they start tasting good...you're in for a delightful treat. I've heard this song 100s of times...and still should not be driving (though I usually am) during the last minute as I start screaming along with them and drift into a state of pure energy.]
16. boy least likely to - faith (george michael cover)
[An awesome version of the song...leaves me smiling after every listen.]
17. junior boys - in the morning
['because we're too young']
18. neko case - maybe sparrow
[A very clever metaphorical thought provoking song that makes you want to sing loudly along with miss case. I must admit I also enjoy this song because it sounds like she's singing to me!]
19. sway - this is my demo
[Twista has met his match...I do think Sway is just slightly faster at his rapping abilities...a tough task to accomplish. Well done Sway.]
20. tapes 'n tapes - omaha
[Jordan's roommate Kim helped produce this band when they were first starting out. Whatever influence he left on them sure helped out.]
21. mogwai - glasgow mega snake
[Did you honestly think I wasn't going to include a Mogwai song on here? There have been multiple occassions where my completely clean room turns into a complete disarray by the end of the song.]
22. digitalism - jupiter room
[It's as if the people/person who made this song graduated top of their class in their major of "Making this kind of song" and made the best "this kind of song" that there could probably be. I still have a scar on my arm from flailing my hands too wildly during the transition between build up and breakdown.]
23. amine - j'voulais
[Another technical 2005 release...but the single debuted in 2006. Though really...this could have easily debuted sometime between 89 and 90...cause it sounds very 89 and 90 ish. A guilty pleasure.]
24. utada hikaru - passion
[I've gotta say this is a very different song than the ones I've heard from hikaru in the past. It is almost as if she is talking rather than singing the whole time...and there really doesn't feel like there is a chorus at all...other than one sound/set of words she repeats in the background often...yet somehow it works...and works well.]
25. pelle carlberg - go to hell, miss rydell
[hahaha....what? hahahaha!!]
