(no subject)

I found out last week that I officially received a stipend from UT Law's Career Launch Program to pursue an internship from the time between taking the bar exam and getting my results in November.

So I'll be working with the Travis County Domestic Relations Office. The D.R.O. is appointed as Guardian ad Litem in civil cases, primarily divorce and child custody cases, where a minor child is a subject of the suit. Once the D.R.O is involved, the Guardian ad Litem for each specific case meets with the children on a regular basis, attends all court proceedings and certain other non-judicial events such as mediations or settlement conferences, and interacts with the parents and the parent’s attorneys to ensure that the child’s best interest is represented during the legal proceedings.

All in all, pretty much right up my alley. I'm sure I'll have many cases during my career in Austin where the D.R.O. will be involved, so getting to see how they work from the inside will be extremely helpful. Not to mention, getting to interact with the various family law attorneys during the internship will be another great way to network before I'm officially licensed.

I'm pretty excited about it.

Now I just need to pass the bar exam so all this experience won't go to waste.
