I still doooooooooooon't get it
I rewatched most of Avatar: the Last Airbender over the weekend, and one thought constantly kept running through my head:
How the fuck were people seriously saying it's not Asian?! How the heck did anyone seriously look at the show and the backgrounds and the clothing and the characters and go, "Ahh, they're all white people!"
Anyone who looks at any part of Avatar (...ok, aside from the swamp hicks; I will concede them because good lord, they were a parody of Southern US country bayou people) and goes, "white people!" needs to do some serious unpacking of their racial backpack. Because...dude, naw.
For fuck's sake, they were chanting IN CHINESE - and it was a Buddhist chant to Amida Nyorai - when the lion-turtle was talking. And everything was written IN CHINESE. AHAHAHA, wtf.
