Hmm~
So someone got me thinking a few days ago about our experiences in Discedo and how candidly dramatic they appear to play out, much like a reality show broadcast on television. We're not being entertained ourselves, the assumed task given to us is nigh impossible, the situation is bizarre, and the differences between each individual and world is so great that just as much frustration comes from interacting as anything else. So, really, Discedo, how far off is it to assume that we're here merely for the amusement of others unseen? Not necessarily the scientists, but even beyond that?
Think about all the little interpersonal dramas around us during our stay here, the extreme situations we're placed in on a daily basis. Are there any correlations between who you know and what character archetypes you've read in a book or seen on television? ("Archetype" being used in any sense, whether a stereotype, epitome, or literary modus for plot.) On top of this, memes - cultural ideas, behaviors, and practices passed from one individual to the next through imitable interaction and phenomena - and tropes - common patterns in literary works that are not used as cliché, but rather because of their tried and true success in portraying an idea through a set of general assumptions and/or connotations. Then again, this leads us to a scripted pattern, as opposed to a spontaneous "reality" drama (however real you wish to believe those are), resulting in something akin to the classic scripted genre: the soap opera.
After all, just in these past few days and weeks, absurd amounts of blood have been shed, numerous loved ones have died, and you've all cried and carried on about it, even though you know very well that they'll simply return next season tomorrow.
And that's a case in point - the Slaughterhouse trope. Desensitization by accidental video posts shock factor, so much exposition that it leaves little to the imagination, and by the end of it the experience is muted out simply because the sustained stress has put your little mind into overdrive and then, finally, boredom burnout. Coupled with this B Rate Horror approach is the Cosmic Horror aspect - there is nothing beyond Discedo to help Discedo, people are picked off one after another in a neverending cycle that can rarely be stopped without yet more violence, the powers that be - really, anyone beyond your little circle - hardly caring for your wellfare simply because it bears little relevance to their own. All that's left is a cold and empty world where people care for only themselves and nothing else, save for the slightly more for those they hold at arm's length.
But don't worry; when the series ends, we'll all wake up and realize it was all just a dream~
