... bidding is now open for the AO3 fundraiser auction! For those of you who haven't been keeping track of this, it's an amazing project run mostly by roane and moonblossom. It's designed to support the Archive and gather as much money from fandom as possible. Everyone can bid on authors they'd like to receive a fic from, and there are more than 300 authors on the list from loads of fandoms, so there's sure to be someone you love!
For people who are worried about the legal side of this (i.e. whether this conflicts with the general non-profit nature of derivative works), bootsnblossoms has written this response that outlines why this doesn't generate profit for anyone except for the OTW (AO3's mother structure), which is legally a non-profit organisation.
