For a moment Adam gets distracted. There's a glint off the water, the sun hitting a wave just reaching it's peak, a kid laughing somewhere to the left and a mother yelling at a rogue Labrador Retriever to the right. It's a lot of stimulus, a lot of shiny happy movie moment - too much to not space out for the span of at least fifteen seconds and lose himself in the moment.
Then Kris coughs and he's right back where he wants to be - not lost, most decidedly found"Have you heard a word I said

Omg! I worship at your feet! Adam zoning out for a minute with the beach sounds in the backround, that is everything I love about a day at the beach! And pics of newlysingle kris 'smoking adam out'. Seriously, this is perfection. Thanks so much.....hope this helped get your brain in gear! :)
He absolutely doesn't want anything to do with it - vampires, werewolves, his friends walking around like late-night horror movie villians. The strange blood running through their veins sets them apart, seperates them from him - make them different.
And it isn't about any real feeling of danger. It isn't like he really cares. Most days the future seems bleak no matter what. Dead sister. Drunk mom. A mountain of bills so high, sometimes looking down makes him dizzy, makes him wish he was different too.
"It's not better." Caroline said, once before he told her he couldn't do this. "It's not easier," Tyler insisted - before he walked away.
But it is hard to imagine anything worse than all this time alone.
+He wants to stay away, to live without them. He just can't. He "does the right thing" - that's how Tyler defines him

Damn you make this all seem so easy. I wish I could properly express how awesome this is. I just love it and I agree with Dayl, I love that it's from Matt's perspective. You're pretty amazing. Every word is gorgeous as per usual! Thank you!
On summer days she likes to sit in the sun and imagine another life, an existence other than this reality she deals with fall, winter and spring. A life where she found love.
She imagines a man who could handle her career - and all the answerless questions that career creates - a man who would help her, who would see her strength and prop that strength up. She imagines a man who would add to it, a man like a support beam, not a retaining wall - not someone who would expect her to crumble without him.
On summer days when the suns a perfect drop of yellow in the sky, an egg over easy making life seem less hard - she likes to imagine his dark hair. She imagines eyes as patient as wishing well water - waiting for the plop of copper, the hopeful throw, the dreamer to take the chance. She imagines his steady hands, his voice - a train track voice, providing a path, a place for her wheels to fit, a groove that would help with forward momentum.
On summer days she can almost see him, feel him, a man she never knew, never loved. The

I love that this is written from Matt's POV. All the confusion and fear is just so palpable.
I also really love this line:
when Tyler opens his eyes and all he sees is trust staring back at him - two dark windows into a soul that doesn't trust easily.
UGH SO PERFECT. How do you do it?

Love that -- that is so who Peter is for her.
And I love the part about the sun like an egg over easy, his patient eyes, steady hands, and train track voice.
Beautiful ficlet -- so poetic and makes me itch for Olivia to remember Peter already and for S4 to be here!
