For Annabelle

Our sweet Annabelle journeyed into the great beyond yesterday. Just a week ago, on February 2nd, we celebrated her birthday. Twelve wonderful years! She was happy and healthy right up until the last few days, when her back legs gradually lost all their strength. I wish I could have been by her side at the end, but I'm thankful that my dad was with her as she drifted off to sleep..

I've collected hundreds of photos of Annabelle over the past twelve years, and I've put together some of my favorites as a tribute to my sweet girl..

Annabelle was truly a great dog. Amanda and I had the pleasure of knowing her from the very day she was born (Amanda's 17th birthday actually).

little bean!

At that point, we were innocently visiting the puppies at our friend's house, but that tiny seed of "omg we want one" was planted early on. It took some serious convincing - we even wrote an essay! How could our parents possibly resist these cuties?

the puppies playing; they were so adorable!

Annabelle was so droopy! She had all this extra skin and looked a little rolie-polie

They finally caved, and over spring break we brought our new puppy home, just in time for Easter.

she even had a pink Easter bow :)

our first walk!

that face 😍

even as a puppy she was pretty good, but we were a little too entertained by some of her bad habits.. like biting our ankles and pant legs! Of course we didn't want those tiny needle teeth nipping our toes, so we'd let her chase us around the house, encouraging her playful (and painful) nibbling.

we could even drag her around the tile floor while she held onto our pant legs! all of our pants had tiny little teeth holes in them 😂

we always had to make sure there was plenty to chew on. water bottles were her favorite! paper towel rolls were pretty good too.

she grew up pretty fast though, and we had a great time training her. she was a smart girl and picked up a few fun tricks, like speak and wave and spin. and then she would try to do them all at once 😂😂😂

she and Kloey got along too, after a little adjustment period!

she was such a fun pup, she definitely completed our family!

she loved riding copilot to Amanda in the Buick

and she loved her toys! chewing upside down was her way of entertaining herself

and tug-of-war! she was pretty damn strong too

the best toys were the ones with squeakers that she could kill and shred apart. this is probably my favorite photo of Annabelle in her post-puppy years; just look at that bright joy and pride of destroying the squeaky toy!

Christmas cuddles <3

she went to the coast to live with Amanda for a year or so and loved it, especially going to the beach

Amanda also let her run amok at the ranch while she delivered hay to all the horse pens with an ATV and Annabelle chasing behind, or occasionally riding along

that ranch was her happy place, for sure. And she was an expert squirrel hunter!

a true Labrador, she went nuts for water. Uncle Eric's swimming pool was the best for diving into! Hours and hours of fetching and it would never get old for her (just for us!)

Annabelle was kind of Andrew's and my 3rd dog intermittently as we would watch her whenever my parents traveled. She was actually with us when we visited the shelter and brought home baby Mia! This family photo was the day after that adoption, I was pretty stoked as you can tell!

We had help raising little Mia those first couple weeks from our sweet Nanabelle

I took this one close to our 2nd anniversary of adopting Mia. Annabelle was my first puppy, so it was pretty special having her close by to raise my 2nd pup

the whole dog pack! Now we're down to 3 in SLO-town, as Noah is livin' it up in snowy Tahoe

yep, Annabelle sure was a special dog. She deserved all the love and affection we gave her and so much more..

My Annaboo, I will miss you forever and I hope you're at peace!
