An artist I like very much.
Simon Lewty He has been getting some attention of late.
Good.
I came across a catalogue for an exhibition in 1992 in a shop near that there Tate Modem some years ago. Those works were more map-like and reminded me of the ones a friend and I would draw of imaginary lands, with indexes and notations when we were about 13...but these carrying real mystery. I have caught his last two exhibitions. I would love to own a drawing of his. However, having sprung for the Alan Davie I cannot afford anything for a while. Oddly, his work would sit well with Davie, I think.
To me the drawings could be the found outpourings of a wandering schizophrenic or guides to magickal places. There always seems to be a secret there that I want to share in but cannot fathom.
A lot of people will just think it a load of scribble.
But it isn't! (shouted a la Fred from the B52s on Planet Claire).
