He mentions it was inspired by the house in 'Shadowland' by Peter Straub and there seems to me to be echoes of Tamson House from the book 'Moonheart' by Charles de Lint.
Also makes me think of Kate Bush in the attic in the lion suit on the cover of 'Lionheart'.
