Well, I'm tired. Very tired. But a quick note before bed.
Had a lovely time with grey_and_purple last night: Ate sushi, wandered around the bustling NY night grabbing a drink and some tea, chatting about life, transness and dwarfism, and finding an awesome little cafe on - I want to say MacDougal Street. The Bourgeouis Pig. It's an abundantly intimate hobbit hole of a cafe boasting red velvet couches, matte finish tin ceilings, red lighting, eclectic interesting but unpretentious bric-a-brac, and a menu consicting of plates of friut& cheese, chocolate fondue, coffees, and wine. Ahhh. We stayed two hours and three glasses.
I'm always nervous meeting someone new, especially so if I know them from online and have a vague sense of them, built up expectations of compatibility. Unfortunately the finer points, the vibes, feelings, expressions, and perspectives that only come through in person can prove to be anything from utterly charming to ghastly. So I'm nervous. Images of strained conversations, intolerable pauses, and the ransacking of brains for remotely plausible reasons to leave, stomped through my head. I worried unnecessarily. We got off to a slightly awkward start - how can you not when you meet for the first time? - and I was not at my scintilating best yesterday, but Pat is an easy talker, unflapped by a gap in conversation. She knows how to be silent for a few moments, letting the rhythm form and flow. And flow it did. For five hours. By the middle of mon verre du bordeaux deux, while talking books and the hot waitress, I realized that all awkwardness had evaporated we were left with a damn fine night out. Lovely.
