Dear mystery author,

I offer my humble accolades for this delightful first part of your story. Sherlock's POV is spot on--a great combination of superior intellect and social naiveté. I absolutely adored it! There's so many parts that made me smile and nod "Yes! That's exactly how it would go!"

I also loved John's subtle jealousy. it was very touching and layered.

I'm excited to read more. This is fabulous.

Thank you! I hope the rest of the story met your expectations. Sherlock is such a balancing act to write. On the one hand he has to be brilliant and see things that others don't, and on the other hand in order to pull off something like this he has to be kind of an idiot and not see things that are blindingly obvious to everyone else (except John of course, who has to be even more blind than Sherlock). ;)

*glomps* So many exclamation marks!!!!!
I guess the gods of Holmestice sent me inspiration or else you and I happen to have the same fascinations. I am always up for a good Viclock backstory (as long as it ends up Johnlock) but have never written one before. You said to explore something about a character and that was what I picked. :)
The food was pure dumb luck, I didn't even plan it really but it kind of snuck in and I picked it up and ran with it. Do let me know how any of the recipes turn out if you try them, I just Googled them. Although I have tried the pub chips now and they were very good. :p
Anyway, I'm super relieved and gratified that this ended up to your liking, and thank you very much for the lovely comments. <3

This is terrific! The character ensembles, Sherlock's discomfort about Victor and close observation of John, his longing, the wonderful job you do of making John intelligible to the reader while he remains plausibly opaque to Sherlock, the hints about what happened to Mary ... I'm really excited to read the rest. Lucky tiltedsyllogism!

It's interesting you picked up on John because that was something I looked at in particular with my beta reader, making it clear (enough) what his feelings and thoughts were whilst keeping Sherlock in the dark about it. So it's especially nice to hear that that balance worked, at least for you. Thank you for taking the time to leave comments on every part, it was so nice to read them. :)
