Childish being the operative word. This isn't even a proper adaptation. It's based on a book that was only partially supposed to be Sherlock Holmes, and only then tangentially.

Oh, come on. Who's really going to confuse Basil for Holmes in any real way? And there are proper references. The dog he borrows is even called Toby, for Christ's sake.
