Robert stays the night at the hospital, constantly by Jude's side. Sometimes he hovers over him, running his hand across Jude's face, staring as if it will somehow wake him. The time gives Robert a chance to think more about what he'll say to Jude when he wakes, how to explain.
I'll just tell him the truth, I love him. That's why I left... No. That makes no sense... I had to leave before I got in too deep? No, I was always in over my head... It doesn't make sense any way I say it!
"That's it. It doesn't make sense... but I love you. I have the perfect life, the perfect family, I didn't need anything else. Then there was you... and life got that much more amazing. Everything about you just shines. Your eyes, your smile, the way you cover your mouth when you're trying not to laugh," Robert smiles fondly and runs his hand across Jude's forehead, "I love you, Jude."
"You sure have a funny way of showing it."
Robert's head jerks up and his heart stops.
"Susan... how long have you been standing there?"
"Long enough." Susan crosses the room and sits next to Robert, "and I knew... long before you did."
Robert looks up at her with a hopeless look on his face.
"Don't look at me like that, Rob. I knew this was coming and I finished my self pity a long time ago. Don't you start in on it."
"But... how?" Robert shakes his head in disbelief.
"Really? It's too obvious, don't be dense. You're different around him." Susan leans forward and kisses Robert on the forehead, "I'm willing to work around this, no need to add the paparazzi and press to all this drama."
Robert sighs, "you're really too good for me, you know that?" He looks up and smiles.
"Yeah, I know and don't you forget it!" Susan says and smiles back. She squeezes Robert's hand and walks away.
What a fantastic woman...

Lights... wait, is this heaven?
Jude opens his eyes slightly.
Ugh! No, way too bright and painful to be heaven...
He tries again and succeeds this time. He looks down and sees a hand on top of his own.
Robert...
Jude starts to smile, but stops.
I... I can't do this right now. He left me, he's probably here for good press.
He removes his hand, waking Robert.
"Mmm... Jude?! Oh my God, you're awake!"
"Yes"
Robert pulls Jude as close as he can and cries, "oh thank God, I thought I'd lost you!"
Jude pushes him away, "since when do you care whether I'm alive or not? Afraid you'll get the blame?"
"Jude... no, it's not like that at all... listen to me, I..."
"No, Robert! I don't need an explanation from you! You said enough by leaving!"
"Jude, please..."
"Get out..." Jude waves the back of his hand towards the door.
"Judesie..." Robert grasps his hand, but Jude jerks it away.
"I said GO!"
Robert can feel his heart shatter and he silently walks out the door, he looks back and sees Jude shiver and sigh, a single tear sliding down his cheek.
He whispers, "I love you, Jude. I'm not letting you go this easily."
