Oww. If one hit wouldn't kill him or cause permanent damage, go ahead. Anything else, please contact me first. John was a soldier, so he's not helpless, but he's still only human. He doesn't have any super special sparkly powers that would keep him from getting hurt.

It's fine to recognize the name John Watson and connect it to Sherlock Holmes. They both have websites, and Sherlock is well-known in some circles, so it won't surprise John to be recognized. Talking about the traditional, Victorian-era Sherlock Holmes books/tv/movies will just get you a confused look, since obviously those don't exist in his world. Feel free to try and explain it to him though. :D
