Chapter Seven: Prisoners of War and Peace
"Nice to see you awake," a voice remarked from behind Jamie.
Caught by surprise, she whirled 'round to face the potential threat, only to find a dog-faced man sitting on the only bed in the cell.
"Who are you?" Jamie demanded.
"My name is Parthosian Mylos the Third," the dog-faced man replied. "And you are?"
Realizing that Parthosian Mylos the Third was not a threat but instead a potential ally, Jamie introduced herself.
"Captain of the Enterprise, eh?" Parthosian remarked, recognizing Jamie's name. "Looks like my brother has bigger dreams than the throne of the Armani Empire."
"Armani Empire?" Jamie asked.
"We may have nothing on the Klingon Empire, but then we only discovered warp technology twenty-six years ago," Parthosian said defensively.
"It's just that I have never heard of the Armani Empire before, Parthosian," Jamie explained.
"Not surprising, as we prefer to avoid interaction with off-worlders, Captain," Parthosian replied. "But my brother hungers for power. He killed our father and had me thrown into prison for his crime, thereby taking the throne of the Armani Empire. Now that he's taken hostage the famed Federation captain--you--, I can only imagine that he has designs on the power of its president."
"He'd have to wage a war to take over the presidency," Jamie observed. "And even then, he'd likely lose."
"My brother is clever, Captain," Parthosian observed. "He'll find a way to beat the odds."
That was when Jamie remembered Sarek. Was he alright? Had Parthosian's brother had his men take the Vulcan hostage along with her?

"If you wait too long to tell her, it will be too late, Spock."
"I do not want to frighten her away, Ambassador," Spock admitted. "She tends to shy away from those emotions."
"It doesn't have to be a verbal declaration," Selek told his younger counterpart. "There's a human adage that I've found is very true when it comes to Captain Kirk: 'actions speak louder than words'."
"Spock?" a voice called, breaking into the Commander's thoughts.
"Yes, Doctor?" Spock inquired.
"I have some information you need to hear," McCoy replied.

"This is so not a dream," a gruff voice grumbled, waking Jamie, who almost fainted as she saw who it was.
"Bones?!" she demanded in shocked surprise, not quite believing her senses.
"Dammit, Jamie, you need to quit getting yourself abducted every single time you get off the ship," McCoy grumbled.
"I don't get in trouble every time I step off of the Enterprise, Bones," Jamie pointed out.
"It damn sure seems like it's every single time, Jamie," McCoy insisted.
"Spock will find us, Bones," Jamie said confidently. "He always does."
"And why does he do that, Jamie?" McCoy wondered aloud. "Haven't you ever wondered about that?"
"I try not to, Bones," Jamie admitted.
"Why?" McCoy asked.
"I don't want to get my hopes up, Bones."
