Sherlock Holmes' powers of persuasion were almost as impressive as his powers of deduction. When he spoke, the room immediately fell silent and all ears perked, for in my companions' voice there was a sense of confidence and assurance that could soothe any bewildered woman and convince even the most stubborn sailor.
I fear that in the first few months of our acquaintance, he was allowed to use and abuse these powers on me as he wished. However, when I began to chronicle his adventures, I became increasingly aware of the danger the manipulative skills my friend frequently employed represented.
