Vidding Question Which Makes Me Seem Dumb

Apr 24, 2009 12:07

What is everyone's process on vidding with source ripped from DVDs? More specifically, once you have the VOB files sitting there, what next?

Obviously I have my own methods, but this is for Vividcon so I don't want to mess around with possible fail. (I've heard that once it's on the projector you can really tell and this makes me go MEEP!) So I'm ( Read more... )

vividcon, vidding talk, help!

When I clip from DVDs, I also take the VOB files into Vdub and encode them to AVI using the HuffyUv compression codec. I believe chasa gave me that tip years ago and it works best for me. I'm surprised that you need advise here, since your vids are always so spectacular. :)

Yeah I know, I was really ashamed of even making this post, lol. Truth is it's been a while since I used DVD footage and I always compressed it with the WM9 codec to keep the clip size down. But since this is for screening purposes (which I will attend lol) I wanted to work with HQ source.

Can I ask if I should be seeing the Huffyuv codec in the Compression window (cuz mine looks like this and it's not in there even after I installed it), or is it like in there and I don't know about. Like should I just go File → Save as AVI?

Yep, you should see it like this: http://www.neuralcluster.net/images/vdubhuffy.png

And you say youinstalled it? Maybe try re-installation or reboot.

I think it was an issue with Vista not wanting to install it the normal way. I used a thing Chasa suggested and now I see Huffy in the Compression window in VDub! \o/

(I feel like such a n00b all of a sudden lol!)

Sorry to bug. Was wondering if you do any special settings with Huffyuv?

There aren't any special settings. You just choose the compression from the list and hit OK. The file size is cut in half from the uncompressed version. Are you having problems?

BTW, I'm on Vista too.

Oh yay! Another Vista vidder! Lol. :D

Currently compressing them. (Ha! It just crashed. I noticed that it crashes if the clip is too long.) They're pretty huge and I was wondering if that was normal or if my settings were somehow off. But since you say it's half of the uncompressed export that makes sense. I did a test with uncompressed and it was HA-YUGE!
