Driving down the left lane on the highway at 90km/h, round a bend and the car ahead of me swerves to miss a white five-litre bucket, knocks it dead centre. Cement barrier to my immediate left, steady stream of cars to my right and behind me. I brake, but not too fast because I want to make sure the guy behind me sees that I'm stopping. For a millisecond, I believe I can clear it. But, since I don't have an SUV or a lift kit, I end up straddling the stupid thing, which then gets wedged between my little Subaru's front wheels. I scrape this puppy along, trying to get into the right-hand lane so I can get out and dislodge it, but it takes a while before someone grabs a clue and lets me in. Of course, there is a concrete barrier on the right side now, so I edge ahead 100 metres or so, cars whizzing beside me (boy, you can tell some people really don't pay attention when they're driving) until there's enough clearance to jump out the passenger side (after climbing over Megan) and get the bucket (without kicking the bucket, like I said, some people really don't pay attention). Thankfully, release was easy and there was no damage, only the smell of charred plastic. Woke me up though.
