After following Hoggle for a while Hardison took in the area around him and commented, "Looks like a war zone."
"There was an uprising a few years back, and now that Jareth's back in power things are going to get mighty interesting."
"What do you mean back in power?" questioned Nate with a raised eyebrow.
Hoggle just shrugged his shoulders and continued to walk, “Jareth’s always been in power. Years ago he lost some of that power. Now? Anyone’s guess.”
“How exactly does he get his power?” questioned Sophie.
Hoggle ignored her, since he wasn’t exactly sure of the answer, and because he really didn’t want to say too much and wind up getting caught like he did so many years ago. He didn’t need these four to find out that he had had a hand in Jareth losing some of his power and the uprising.
“Here we are, entrance to the Labyrinth. You’re on your own from here on out.”
“Gee thanks,” muttered Hardison sarcastically as he pulled out his cell phone to see if he could get a signal. There was nothing, all he had was a glorified paper weight. “Well, there goes that idea.”
“Strange little fellow. Not very talkative.” said Sophie with a sigh.
“Can’t say that I blame him. There could be people listening in at any corner.” said Nate.
“What I wouldn’t give to have a GPS right about now.”
“People have done without GPS, we can too. Let’s head to the right. Sophie, you have any lipstick on you?”
“Yeah, and no need to say more.”
The four of them started heading right, with Sophie stopping every so often to make marks on the cobblestones.
“You hear that?” questioned Eliot as they started to make their way away from a stone that Sophie had just marked.
“Hear what?”
“I thought I heard something or someone talking.”
“Didn’t hear a thing.” Nate said with a shrug as the four of them continued on, not noticing a small goblin lifting the cobblestone over, leaving no trace of the lipstick that Sophie used to mark it.
Parker meanwhile was trying not to go stir crazy in the rooms that she was trapped in with Lily. Lily was keeping to herself and not saying much of anything. Parker found this slightly strange, if Lily had been alone for so long, wouldn’t she want to talk and talk until she could talk no longer? Those thoughts were pushed to the back of her mind when Jareth suddenly appeared in the room.
“Ah, I can see that the two of you are getting acquainted,” he said with a smirk looking at Parker, “You have a very loyal group of friends.”
“They’re here?”
“Outside the Labyrinth yet, but they will fail, and you’ll be one of us forever. There will be a party in your honor tonight, and don’t think about escaping. I will find you.” Said Jareth with a glare and then casting a look at Lily. “And you my precious, I see that you’ve been hiding since my return.” Lily didn’t respond to him, she only returned the glare that he had sent her. “You won’t be staying silent forever.”
Parker silently watched what went on between the two of them. Jareth made his leave this time not by disappearing but through the stone door, which echoed loudly when it closed.
“Isn’t he cheerful?” she muttered to herself then looked at Lily, "Please tell me you’re not married to him.”
“I can safely assure you that I’m not and I wouldn’t marry him if he were the last human here.”
“Is there any way that I can talk to my friends and let them know I’m okay?” questioned Parker in hope.
“No, there isn’t, but I can let you see them.”
“How?”
“Magic,” said Lily as she walked to the tray of fruit that had been sitting on the table untouched since the goblin had brought them something to eat earlier in the day.
“That’s a peach.” Parker said in disbelief.
“Yes, but it’s not an ordinary one. Be careful of any peaches that you see lying around.” Lily then carefully began to peel the peach with a knife. After a few minutes it revealed a crystal. Lily handed it to Parker, “It can give you what you most want, in the Labyrinth’s own way, or it can let you see things.”
Parker held the crystal gently in her hands.
“How do I make it work?”
“Just think what you want to see.”
“I want to see my friends.” The crystal then floated up from Parker’s hands and grew bigger. She could see Nate, Sophie, Eliot and Hardison walking and talking, but she couldn’t hear what they were saying, “Why can’t I hear them?” questioned Parker.
“It’s the way that the crystal works and trust me even though it would be nice to hear, you wouldn’t want anyone else to know what was being said. Jareth has ears and spies everywhere.”
“You’ve tried to escape before?”
Lily nodded her head.
“And I’ve suffered greatly because of it. Jareth will let you get away with only so much before he doles out his brand of punishment,” said Lily as she paid more attention to what the crystal was showing. She saw Parker’s four friends and one of them was a person that she hadn’t seen in quite a long time.
"Lindsey?" gasped Lily in surprise.
