my father showed up at the studio today and made my day. he brought me a brand new 18v cordless drill from harbor freight. my old one dissappeared in the office move and i haven't had one during the whole moving thing. which sucked. but today, life did not suck. i hung pictures and shelves and coathooks. with ease. it was wonderful. only ( Read more... )

Ho ho!

I'm obsessing on lathes, metal/wood work, and handtools. I've been on a binge for weeks, now.

--><-- this close to buying a lathe, but right now I'm more worried about sharpening stones, bowsaw blades, a tap-n-die set, and some brass rod.

i want a good table saw. and an angle grinder. and a router. with lots of bits. i'd really like one in a table. so i can hold the piece and not the router. i want table mounted tools really. i'd like to learn how to turn wood, but i don't know anyone who does it.

and then. i would make THINGS. a wide variety of things. i would fill my free time with ceramics and wood and dusty stuff. and life would be perfect.

That's cool... maybe a bandsaw? I'm thinking about a bandsaw. I have a tablesaw but it's a very small and precise one that'll cut (non-ferrous) metal, plastic, or wood. I'm hoping a large framesaw/bowsaw will keep me away from both a larger table saw and a bandsaw.

I'm starting with something like this, and then a bench, and then a divider.

All tools... no furniture or other household objects, yet. The real goals are robots and solar-powered engines. And tools. :)

i'm thinking of building a tower of babylon. surrounded by tiny little ceramic soldier/bowl things. on tiny little tripods.

i shall take pictures of the soldier bowl things on tripods on sunday then. those, i have. :) i want to make like a thousand of them and put them in formation somewhere random and hide and watch people's reactions...
