Hi folks
It’s been a long time and I have had some good excuses! Mainly because it was final year and moving house involved waiting an age for the internet.
So here come a series of posts with some lovely pictures of herps mainly, wild and otherwise :D
Greece - September 2008
Beautiful and as of yet relatively unspoilt area of paradise, with many herps!
Here are a selection that I was lucky enough to capture although there were many more! I think I need a better camera, but can anyone help with identification of the mystery creatures?
Some pictures of the Mani region in the Peloponnese where I was staying on a campsite.
Beautiful sunsets
Mountains in the background
Traditional housing of the region, each floor represents a new generation...
First and Foremost Caretta caretta. I was lucky enough to witness these endangered hatchlings make their first steps to the sea!!! Seriously one of the best moments in my life. Its awe inspiring how some of these make it to adulthood. I have a couple of videos of the shallow waves washing them around, and may upload in the future.
Protective bamboo, to mark nests but also implanted into the ground to try and prevent dogs digging the nests up. Conservationists went up and down the beach twice daily to check.
FOOTPRINTS!!!
Love this, he got washed onto his back and looked so grumpy!
Off they go!
Interesting brown geckos of some kind…suggestions?
Greek tortoise! So lucky to stumble across a wild one (or an escapee?)!
Some sort of stripy skink with a long and bright green/blue tail, not clear in picture.
Some jelly-like invertebrate, again quite colourful with bright red fringes.
Also went snorkelling for the first time and it was awesome. So many fishes!
