So I wrote Calvin and Hobbes fic, because I read the comics obsessively when I was growing up (I had all the books, and whenever I felt crappy I would just sit down with one of them for hours, it was my homemade therapy), and I've been wanting to write a het love story for awhile now but wasn't inspired until I had this idea about teenage Calvin ( Read more... )

God, this was really beautiful. You write how I wish I could write. I love how you integrated elements of the original comic, with Calvin's daydreams and his parents reactions. The interactions between him and Susie was amazingly written and heartbreaking, but sweet at the same time.

This is fantastic, I love how you got how BIG everything feels when you are that age, and how teh whole world seems to be too small to fit things in. I love that Calvin is smart but not as smart as he thinks he is, and I love that people see right through him and also see just what he wants them to.

Thank you so much! And this:

I love that Calvin is smart but not as smart as he thinks he is

Is one of the big reasons that I've always loved Calvin, that he is so astute in some ways and then just completely wrong or prone to misunderstanding a lot of things. Thanks for reading. :)

Found this through a friend of a friend, and it made me cry a little. If Bill Watterson were to write about teenaged Calvin and Susie, it would be just like this.

OMG I want to draw a big heart around this story.

"He's widely considered a semi-dangerous loser"
Hahaha, this is not hard to imagine.

His fantasy about being a poor migrant worker in the Great Depression is totally excellent.
