I played the records (ok cds) at a rooftop party overlooking the Wburg bridge on Saturday. I'll be honest, I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to do it up until it actually happened due to my ongoing right ear issues. Fortunately, that seems to either have mildly diminished or I got used to it so I was able to play with no problems. I can't tell you how much of a relief that is or how much it would kill me not to be able to dj any more. While I don't get to do it all the time, at least I am physically able to regardless and that makes it all right. On top of that, the party (Amanda's bday) was a lot of fun and it was a beautiful place to DJ. After that though, the people at Webster Hall plus DJ Funk before Crookers made that a total waste of time and money. I don't think I want to go back to Webster Hall again after the mess they made of The Kills soundwise (which at the time pissed off E more than me but in retrospect I agree) and just the general crowd they get. Totally lame and not worth attending, though fortunately to be honest there are few things there that I generally want to see. Tribeca Grand after that was nice but at that point Webster Hall sort of put a damper on the evening altogether so we gave it up as a lost cause and cashed in for the night. One other thing to note as the rest of the weekend was spent on boxing and organizing is that I am putting half the records in the apt (meaning the ones I have in NY, there are plenty more at my parents house in ATL) in storage. At this point I really rarely use them and am almost exclusively digital. I would go 100% in storage except I want to mine the rest for sounds so I am moving them to another part of the apt rather than store them. It sort of feels weird to box them up, but at the same time we don't live in a giant mansion so space is at a premium. Life moves on, things change, I will probably not even notice. ;)
