Thumbelina | Part 2 of 3onlyonemysizeMarch 26 2011, 02:18:22 UTC
Background continued: Thumbelina's journey resumed, but it became clear that she had no real direction and was very very lost. Winter was upon her and to stay warm, she slipped into an old shoe and wrapped herself in the sock. By this point, she was convinced Jacquimo was wrong. She was never going to find her way home. Thumbelina falls asleep and wakes up underground in Ms. Fieldmouse's home. Ms. Fieldmouse was very blunt with Thumbelina and told her that Cornelius had died while he was out searching for her. Thumbelina was heartbroken but agreed to go visit Ms. Fieldmouse's neighbor, Mr. Mole.
There, Thumbelina's mourning for Cornelius continued in a song she sang for Mr. Mole. After the song, Mr. Mole took Ms. Fieldmouse and Thumbelina further into his tunnel where he showed them Jacquimo. He was unconcious with a thorn in his wing. While Thumbelina tended to her friend, the Mole and the Mouse conspired to convince the young girl to marry the mole and keep him company. Ms. Fieldmouse beckoned Thumbelina and she promised to return to Jacquimo that night. Back in Ms. Fieldmouse's house, the rat turned out to be a tramp and tried to force her to marry the mole. Thumbelina didn't give a direct answer and returned to Jacquimo. She monologued here and decided to marry the Mole. That was when Jacquimo woke up. After pulling out the thorn, Jacquimo left, shouting promises to find Cornelius. Thumbelina begged him to stop, but he was gone before she could explain that Cornelius had died. On her way back to Ms. Fieldmouse she is whisked away to Holloway's Keep.
6. Personality: Thumbelina has lived a relatively short life, despite appearing to be 16 stepping out of the flower. Her life was sheltered and filled with people (and animals) that loved her. So for the most part she was a happy, healthy young lady. She is cheerful and warm and enjoys helping others and doing things for her friends. Thumbelina is also very friendly and a true romantic at heart. She makes friends just about everywhere she goes. As friendly as she is, however, Thumbelina is not above being sort of snarky or sarcastic. Because of her sheltered upbringing and limited expericence, Thumbelina is quite naive. People often take advantage of her kindness once they find out how inexperienced she is. Her confidence is easy to break and she is very self concious about her height. After learning of Cornelius's "death", Thumbelina's personality changed. She became quiet and subdued and it was clear her happiness had died with her prince. She has come to accept that tiny people cannot do impossible things and there was simply no place for her in the big world. She still tries to be cheerful, but it's hard for her, considering she wasn't going home and the one person she loved was gone forever.
