Snail Mail [Closed]

Sora had gotten up early, way too early in his opinion, and slid off Riku's bed to finish his letter. He didn't have a hang over, thanks to Riku and the water he barely remembered, but his head felt a little foggy. He thought he could stand to sleep several more days. He just wanted to get the letter done, head off to the post office, and then to all of the things he had to do. Finally, about an hour after he had gotten up (and right before the post office opened), he looked down at the paper, his scrawl in black ink all over it.

Hey Kairi!

It's me! How are you doing? Sorry I haven't written in so long. I always end up writing my mom and then when I'm done I don't have free time so I can't write to you. I'm really sorry. I'll make it up to you by sending you gifts!

I found this ring in a store when I was out doing a mission. I'm glad SOLDIER pays us, or else I wouldn't have been able to get it. I'll just mooch off Riku if I get in trouble. It's not like he uses it for anything but booze anyway (and, uh, don't tell my mom about that, or else he'll get a very angry letter from her. And don't worry about me, I tried the stuff last night because Riku kept saying I should, I don't think I'll ever try it again).

I hope you like the ring! It's shiny and silver. It has three stones on it. The color of them reminded me of your hair. It's called 'ruby' I think. I also figured since there are three stones that's one for Riku, one for you, and one for me me!

The other day, I was practicing magic (Isn't that awesome? Real magic!) with this really cool guy named Cloud. He's quiet and a he seems little insecure, but he is a really nice guy. He was trying to get stronger with magic.

We, uh, broke stuff though. Actually we left a huge crater in the ground. Our spells mixed together and got way more powerful then they should have been. It was so awesome! Dust flew everywhere! I wish you could have seen it.

Of course the General didn't like it so much. Cloud and I have to fix it and then we have to work double to make up it. As soon as I get this letter mailed I'm heading out to get started on all of that today. Yikes, the General had to give us a lecture too. He's an okay guy and all, but very scary at times.

Riku tried to stand up for us. He got in trouble for it too, he doesn't have to do extra duties or anything, but I don't think he's very happy with it either. He's so weird sometimes.

I'm not sure how much he writes to you. I know I hardly ever see him writing. He's always so busy. Since he's been in First Class he spends a lot of time with the General. He's got to hang out with Zack, the second in command (have you heard about him before?) a lot now, since we have a buddy system because of the disappearances.

Oh yeah, remember how I told you about how people were disappearing in the last letter to you? Well, it's still going on. We have no idea what's happening either. It's kind of scary. There's no sign of what happened to them or anything.

But don't worry about Riku, I'm protecting him!

I miss you more and more every day, Kairi. I wish you were here with us. I bet you would like to see the city! The buildings are so tall. I know, I keep on telling you about them, but you have no idea how big they can get! We could fit a whole bunch of Riku's house inside of one! I remember being little and thinking Riku's house was the biggest house ever. Man, I was way wrong.

I had someone take a picture of me and Riku by one of the big buildings. All you can see is the bottom, but you can get the idea! We're in our uniforms. I'm sticking it in here for you! Mom doesn't have a picture of us in our uniforms yet; maybe I should drag Riku out to take more.

One of these days I'm going to have enough money to bring you and my parents to see the city. Maybe after that I can save up and we can start to travel and see the rest of the world together. Maybe Riku will even relax for two seconds and come with us. That would be the best!

I'm totally not sure when you'll get this. I know the mail between the Islands and the mainland is still kind of slow and messed up. We should really work on that. Mom's cookies always end up kind of stale (not that that stops me from eating them!).

Write back to me, okay? I want to know how you are! And the others too! Tell Tidus, Wakka and Selphie that I hope they are all doing well! But I hope that most for you.

I'll be waiting for your letter!
Sora

Sora made sure the ring and the photo were both tucked into the envelope with the letter before he got up and left the room. He checked the time on the way out to make sure he wasn't going to be late and licked and sealed the envelope on the walk to the post office.

The person who worked the counter recognized him when he came in and smiled as they shook their head. Mail between the islands and the mainland was still tricky at times, just like he said in the letter, mostly because the islands were still considered a new addition to the map and the people there didn't tend to like outsiders stepping onto their sands.

"Just do your best to make sure it'll get there, please?" Sora begged, with wide and innocent seeming blue eyes. It was something he always asked.

After they were sure there was enough postage and labeling and Sora paid for the service. He knew that Kairi would love to hear from him, just as he would love to hear from her. When turned to go head towards breakfast there was a wide grin on his face. Not even the prospect of having to make practice dummies later in the day didn't seem like such a big deal. If anything it would be interesting to see how they turned out.
