People want as far away from Bush and "conservatives" as they can get. I put conservatives in quotes because Bush isn't really that conservative, IMHO.
That's exactly what I thought, but I so respect you for saying it. It is easy for me to say it, but it has so much more weight from you.
I've seriously tried to find out what his 'dream' is. I was asking a girl who usually votes Republican why she was "impressed that Obama had a vision".
What is it, and how does he intend making it happen, I asked. She didn't know either answer. Does anybody? Oh sure, maybe Jeremiah Wright. Barack will have to wait to ask him when no one is looking, as far as I can see, or else he has no idea at all. But then I only have the BBC to tell me things ---
His vision is the same as Lenin and Mao's - to convert the greatest nation this planet has ever seen into a third rate nothing.
He wants to totally control every aspect of the average American's life, to make them subserviant to the government, because the "government knows what's good for you, better than you do".
That's not really what most Americans call a vision, don't they call that a nightmare?
In Europe a lot of that might actually be considered desirable (if dressed in different language) but it would mean that America as we know it would cease to be.
The more I think about it, the more the federal government is limited in its power and scope, the more one can identify America as differing from the rest of the world. That is so unique that it really takes some comprehending from afar, we can't even contemplate what it means, really.
Unfortunately, a lot of people not only vote for him because he's black, but because they know exactly that he stands for. They want to ride his coattails into state-sponsored welfare, thinking they're heading for life on Easy Street.

They want to strip us personally of our individuality, and nationally, of our uniqueness.
I'm not sure this country could survive 4 years (or 8 - shudder) of Obama.
