I feel the coolness of something metal like press against the side of my neck; I open my eyes and look up into bright lights. The smell of the room is almost non-existent, there is a faint scent but it is nothing I’ve come across before.
I see a balding man standing above me; he is talking to me, telling me that everything is okay. His voice is calming as the panic came and went as quickly as it appeared.
“Jenny,” I say, trying to sit up. I feel a hand on my back, helping me up.
“Jenny is okay, she’s in her room,” he tells me softly.
“Who are you? Where am I?” I ask. Looking around the room; everything seems so advanced and futuristic, there is nothing here that I would expect to see in a normal hospital ward.
“I’m the Doctor and you’re in sick bay. Please, remain calm and the captain will be here soon to talk with you.”
“The captain? Am I on a pirate ship or something?” I ask, feeling panic rise inside of me again as I run my fingers through my short blonde hair.
I look down and notice that I’m wearing a blue hospital gown; it feels of nothing I’ve felt before. It seems like cotton but the texture is off slightly.
The hissing of doors startles me as I look towards the entrance. Beyond them is a grey corridor with slowly flashing orange lights. There is a black panel on the wall much like the one in here. I don’t know what it does.
An older looking woman wearing a black suit with red up the top and four pips on her grey undershirt stands in front of me. Behind her is a tall, dark skinned male with pointed ears, he is wearing the same type of clothing except where the woman has red, he has yellow and only 3 pips, the last one a darker shade of grey.
“Hello Emma, I’m Captain Kathryn Janeway of the Federation star ship Voyager. And this is Lieutenant Commander Tuvok. I know that what I’m about to tell you is a lot to take in but please bare with me and feel free to ask anything you want.”
I nod my head at the woman and sit up straighter. The man standing behind her looks like a statue, his face is expressionless and he barely moves.
“Where exactly am I and do you all speak German?” I ask; getting in before this Janeway woman starts speaking.
“No, I don’t speak German. You are on a star ship and the universal translators help us to understand one another.”
“Oh, that seems very advanced,” I say, trying to wrap my head around things. “That still doesn’t explain where I am.”
“I was getting to that. This may be hard for you to understand but we found you and another woman, Jenny, in cryogenic stasis. We brought you aboard our ship and the Doctor here revived you both. Jenny is currently in her room as she woke quicker than you did. The year is currently 2375 and we are travelling through the Delta Quadrant in warp speed trying to get back home to Earth,” I watch the woman, not fully comprehending what she is saying. Is this all a dream? What she is saying sounds very confusing to me.
The doors hiss open again and a tall, blonde woman wearing a skin tight, blue, full body suit walks into the room. She looks Human but has maybe a new type of piercing or jewellery above her eye and on her hand.
“Captain, the Malon commander is in your office and wants to speak with you immediately. He insists that our probe belongs to him and he will reach it first. Lieutenant Paris is almost positive that the Delta Flyer will be ready well before the Malon’s shuttle will.” I watch as the looks being exchanged between this woman and Janeway intrigue me. It seems as though they are having a whole different type of conversation with just their eyes.
“Thank you, Seven,” I hear the captain say, just watching them together feels like an invasion of their privacy, I feel as though they have a different type of relationship behind closed doors but I can’t pinpoint what type exactly.
I watch as the tall woman turns around and leaves. Her clothing choice leaves nothing to the imagination and I’m thankful for it, I may be in a relationship with Jenny but a little look at other women here and there is natural. I turn back to the captain and watch her as her eyes follow the woman out of the room, if I didn’t know better I would think she was checking her out.
“I’m sorry Emma, I have to go deal with the ship’s business. Lieutenant Commander Tuvok will take you to your room.”
“No, I want to go see Jenny,” I say, looking her in the eye.
“That can be arranged,” she says. Turning to Tuvok she speaks once more, “Please take Emma to go see Jenny.” And with that she was gone.
I get up off the bed and the Doctor hands me my clothing. I get changed and follow the dark, quiet and mysterious man out of the room.
The long corridors all look identical, we walk into an elevator and I look at the wall trying to find where the buttons are to the other floors.
“Deck 5,” Tuvok says and the elevator starts to move.
“Is the elevator voice controlled?” I ask, feeling like an idiot.
“The turbo lifts are indeed controlled by voice commands,” he replies, looking straight ahead.
“Oh,” I say, slumping against the wall. The only reason why I’m not freaking out at this very moment is because the promise of Jenny is too close and soon enough, I will hopefully have her wrapped in my arms.
The turbo lift comes to a stop and we both get off, I follow him around the corridors until we come to a closed door. He presses the button on it which is like a doorbell and I hear the sweet voice of Jenny saying ‘Coming.’
The door opens and there she is, as beautiful as ever. Her blue eyes look into mine and I envelop her in my arms. She drags me into the room and hugs me tighter. I hear the doors close behind me as my lips meet her soft, full ones. We kiss for what seems like forever, our tongues dance together, only pulling apart for much needed oxygen.
“Emma,” she says, her delicate features are illuminated by the soft light, making her look so beautiful.
“Jenny,” I reply looking into her soft blue eyes, getting lost in them.
We stand there and just hold each other, grateful to be in each other’s embrace once more. I feel her hand in mine and we move over to the soft couch. She sits down and pulls me between her legs, cuddling me from behind.
I feel her chin rest on my shoulder as her head rests against mine. Her soft breath tickles my neck. “I love you,” she softly whispers, sending a wave of warm through me with those three little words.
“I love you too, now and forever,” I whisper back, getting lost in her warm embrace as I close my eyes.
The end.
