london calling

So today my sister left. I’m not gonna a lie, I was not horribly sad to see her go. We have always gotten along a lot better when there was an ocean between us. so we leave for the airport a little before 11, missing the last few minutes of a Dawson’s Creek rerun mind you and everything is fine. So she goes through security and all and as custom my mom and I observe her through the glass wall at the gate. So my mom is trying to make my sister double check to see if she has her passport and I wave my keys and it is then that she realizes that she has forgotten the key to my aunt’s house in London…the house the she is supposed to stay at until she has found a flat of her very own in the coming days. Dumbass. If she only realized her mistake sooner then I would have been able to go back home and get it. Her flight is supposed to leave at 12:26 and it is 12:08 when all this is happening and there is no way I can make it b/c it takes like 20 minutes to get there anyway. drama drama drama.

So I drive my mom to the hospital since she decided not to show up for the first half of the day so she could see Ayesha off safely. I call my dad at work and he is no help at all. He is doing his scary calm voice asking ME how she could have been so careless. The whole time we’re going to the VA I’m calling my aunt who’s line is constantly busy to let her know what’s going on. I finally get through and ask her if it is ok if we have her locks changed or overnight the key. She is really cool about it and tells me to call my great uncle Tony who lives in London a.k.a. the person who is going to pick up my sister from Gatwick to find out what is easier for him. So I drop off my mom and by the time I get home and dig out the phone book to find how much the shipping will cost from UPS and FedEx my dad calls and he has already looked that stuff up for me. So now I call Tony a.k.a. the biggest family gossip and tell him what the deal is and he is cool about it and calls Ayesha stupid and tells me its cool that she stays with him until everything gets sorted out.

So here comes the tricky part: I had to get his mailing address. The first two times he tells me, I can’t understand what he’s saying. It was a bad combination of his British accent and the phone line connection. So he’s all annoyed that he had to tell me 3 times so I am afraid to quadruple check what he said. So I call my aunt back and ask her what his address is and ha! I had it right. London addresses are way wonky for example: 16 Kinsdale Road, Peckham, London SE15 4HL, UK. Except nobody tells me how to divide it! this was my educated guess from past luggage tag writing experiences. Anyways so I head over to the FedEx/Kinko’s store and get ready to send it thinking it will be super easy. Ok so it wasn’t super easy, but it wasn’t that bad either. I was not prepared to fill out a customs form however, but all in all it was fine except for the extra $34.81 charge on my credit card. In less than two hours a potential crisis was averted so I treated myself with a well deserved icee. This just goes to show that Ayesha can still be a major pain in the ass without even being here.
