militant atheists are the flip-side of evangelists. they go around scoffing at god and making people feel stupid for believing in him. i'm highly suspicious of anyone who tries to force a belief that can't be tested on anyone else. they're either a self-righteous idiot, or they have an agenda.

"i don't know" is fine. "neither do you" is only acceptable if they're trying to push their beliefs onto you. if they're just going about their happy christian/jewish/muslim/hindu/zorastrian way, let them be.

Well, "neither do you" has pretty solid epistemological grounds. I mean, such a person wouldn't be very considerate, surely, but they're correct rational... listic... ally.

But then again, it's faith that's important to religion, so rationalism really has no place in such discussions. :O
