Sean smiled and nodded to the customer tuning out her ramble on prize Azaleas’ as he glanced at the clock. Sick calls and extra deliveries be damned he couldn’t figure out why he’d agreed, even volunteered, to help out today. A sandy head appeared from beneath the counter, long fingers nimble as they swiped dust from narrow wire framed glasses then tapped pursed lips thoughtfully, smearing ink in the process. Calvin, the store owner. Calvin added a book to an already tottering pile, spoke into the phone tucked under his chin and made a note on the ledger in a neat scrip. He then smiled. Sean remembered why he was there.

‘Young man, young man are you listening to me?’

Damping down fantasies of absent minded professors and strict librarians, Sean had to stifle a groan.

‘Oh yeah. Um, third stack over, middle shelf, red label.’

‘Thank you dear’

He’d possibly just sent old Miss Lewis over to the GLBT erotica section to learn about pruning shrubs but she’d interrupted and the shop was closing soon anyway. Store closed all that was left would be science!

‘The new units are already up and in place?’

‘Yes, James helped me with them. Well, he and Colin put them together while I passed things, dodged hammers and supplied coffee’

‘So you needed me for?’

‘Bubble-wrap’

‘er Bubble-wrap?’

‘Giant bubble-wrap, sheets of the stuff’

If Sean didn’t know Calvin to be the serious intellectual man he was, then he’d suspect his leg was being pulled. As it was, his part-time boss, full-time friend and frequent focus for lust, was beaming at him as if phoning for urgent bubble-wrap help was normal logical behaviour.

‘and you need me for?’

‘The bubble-wrap’

‘Of course’

‘Glad you agree Sean, I thought immediately of you’

‘thanks?’ Sean found himself dragged into the back room where there was indeed large sheets of bubble-wrap all over the floor. Industrial wrap with the larger bubbles just begging to be popped.

POP. POP, pop pop, POP.

‘mmmm Bubble-wrap!’

POP.

Calvin dragged his head from the box he was unpacking, then a few minutes later his mind. The last few utterances had been ignored; Sean’s offer to make coffee got a ‘mpfh’ the suggestion of takeaway had been greeted with a grunt, a dropped box had received a mild reprove. The throaty groan that hailed the bubble-wrap got his attention though, as did the blissed out expression and pleased hum that accompanied Sean popping another bubble. Tanned fingers massaged and teased at the little air bubbles, savouring each plump orb, testing their resistance with a firm circular pressure before pressing down both thumbs in sync. POP. There was something satisfying about the sound and Sean’s face spoke of his pleasure.

Calling his friend over to help when overcome with the abundance of packing materials and boxes had been inspired. POP. It was in fact inspiring all kinds of thoughts.

Pop, pop. POP. Sean was pacing himself. A small pop and release of air with each hand followed by both hands, thumbs rolling the matching teats then snapping them sharply for the ultimate pop. Bliss. He opened his eyes. He’d rolled up one sheet of plastic tying it firm, but the floor was still covered and the little mounds begged for attention in the quiet store room. Pop. He quite forgot he wasn’t alone.

‘You look like you’re orgasming’

Pop.

‘What?’

Calvin had moved closer at some point, and was now sitting directly in front of him.

‘Like multiple small orgasms’

Sean watched as Calvin reached for piece plastic he held, those slender fingers deftly popping several bubbles in rapid succession. Pop, pop, pop. Clear grey eyes watched him intently through wired lens, lids dropping and lips narrowing on each pop.

‘Orgasms?’ He could feel his cheeks heat which was a wonder in itself considering all the blood in his body had rushed a fast track to his groin.

‘We should test it?’

‘We should?’ Sean’s brain had followed his blood flow and settled below waist in his tightening pants.

‘Which type is best. Empirical study is important’

‘Empiric…?’

‘Science’

‘Oh’ Sean’s traitorous lips gave up the effort to talk and stuck to the far more enjoyable activity of kissing. Wait kissing? Calvin using his height to his advantage had leaned forward and taken possession of Sean’s mouth. There was a small chance that Sean had dropped off to sleep and was fantasising this, he moved a hand to pinch his thigh but it was covered by fallen bubble-wrap. POP. He couldn’t be dreaming that chuckle, the warm breath tickling his face, the taste of coffee on his lips and the sparkle and dance of up close grey eyes.

‘Important to know which is best’

‘Yes’ Sean had no idea what Calvin was talking about as his shirt was removed and clever hands wandered but his whole body was screaming yes so he went with that ‘YES’

Pop, pop, pop. Plastic stuck to bared skin and cushioned joints while providing a soundtrack until gasps and cries raised to drowned it out.

‘ooh!’ POP, pop, pop. ‘YES!’ pop, pop, POP.

**** ****

‘So?’

‘mm?’

‘Which is best?’

‘Which?’

‘Orgasm’ Calvin reached lazily past Sean taking the time to enjoy the sight of fit tanned limbs as he snagged a corner of bubble-wrap. It took Sean two attempts before he could pop a bubble which was answer enough for Calvin‘s smug smile. Sean wanted to lick the smile off his face, and would as soon as he could move again. ‘Perhaps some more research?’

‘For science’ Calvin agreed, face serious but body starting to stir again with renewed interest.

‘Science’ words got lost in more kisses, sweet exploring ones the urgency already spent.

Pop.
