Tomorrow is Ratcatcher's Day!

Every July 22nd, we honor the Pied Piper of Hamelin by celebrating Ratcatcher Day!

RATS?! (I hear you cry with horror--) WHY DO YOU WANT US TO WRITE ABOUT RATS?!

My dears, Ratcatcher Day is not just about rats and those who catch them. It's also about music, greed, oaths made and broken, vengeance, and the terrible beauty of magic! The night of July 22nd is supposedly the one during which the Pied Piper returned to Hamelin, playing a magical melody that compelled all the village children to rise and follow him out of the town--some say to be drowned with the town's rats in the sea; others say to a cave, where they remained until the Mayor made good on his promise and paid the Piper.

Do you have stories of magic knotted in with human need, or greed, or vows? Tell us a tale of good deeds unrewarded, or of music so achingly beautiful it could enthrall even rats in a gutter. Sings us a song of catching rats, catching children, catching the innocent to get to the guilty. Tell us of promises broken and kept, and of some magic's sinister price.

And always, always remember to pay the Piper!
