Title: Triptych
Fandom: Harry Potter
Character: Eloise Midgen
Rating: PG
Word Count: 300
Summary: Three 100 word drabbles on Eloise Midgen. I kind of had a mind-body-soul approach to this, if that makes sense. (It might once you actually read it.) Oh, and I think I might have posted the first two drabbles before in
huff100.
i - kindred spirits
Eloise is one of the few girls who will actually use Moaning Myrtle's bathroom.
She started going there in the breaks in between classes when the teasing got too much, knowing she wouldn't be followed. Myrtle would stop wailing and watch as Eloise dried her eyes and composed herself. She never said anything comforting, but she didn't laugh either.
They never talk, but Eloise smiles at Myrtle when she enters the bathroom, who drifts out from her cubicle to watch as Eloise glances in the mirror (not an act of vanity but to check that her nose is still there).
ii - external appearances
Susan carried the book around for weeks, repeatedly reading the same chapter. The charm promised to remove "a blighte uppon the face"; she figured it would work on freckles.
At the last minute she lost her nerve, and left the book, complete with bookmark, in the common room. The next day Eloise was in the Hospital Wing without a nose.
When Susan brought her chocolate, Eloise blurted out, "I looked in your book. I'm sorry, Susan, I just wanted to see what was so interesting and then when I saw the charm..."
Susan smiled. "It's okay. And I'm sorry too."
iii - i talk to you in my head all the time
She didn't think she'd ever been angrier in her life. She wanted to throw herself at the walls, smash every plate in the kitchen cupboards and scream till her throat was raw. Eloise contented herself with pacing up and down her bedroom, fuming loudly.
"The sheer bloody nerve of it! Like I'm any safer here?"
She whirled round and kicked her chair over, gritting her teeth at the pain.
"Dad locked me in the house, Cedric. Took me out of Hogwarts and locked me in like a child. How dare he?"
She collapsed onto her bed.
"What would you do?"
