Glad to hear there is to be another season :)

Still on LJ rather than DW, then?

It appears that way - there's an unofficial DW comm I'd love to see get really going, as most people I know have left LJ at this point - but it doesn't seem that this community is going to connect with it so far...

There's an official one, too, a backup made this spring by one of the mods, hence my question:

Oh, I didn't know about the official backup one! Somehow I stumbled across the unofficial one only when searching and thought that was it.

:D I love the icon too.

But yeah, I'd really like to do Holiday Wishes on DW in the future - too many people have left LJ entirely, including ones who've never heard of Holiday Wishes till I mentioned it to them recently (they loved the idea), and it would have to run on DW to get them. I would imagine coordination of both LJ and DW would be a challenge, but it could be done! I can't see it being any harder to monitor for duplicate wishlists across both comms than on one - people can already create multiple LJ accounts as it is, so it's not like there's any greater risk there. And most people would be quite happy to comment on wishlists on LJ with an OpenID, even if they've deleted their LJ and are only on DW.

*raises hand to volunteer with helping on DW if that's needed* :)

Hi! We are not moving to DW. Neither kindergoth nor I are on LJ (or DW) much these days; we basically only come for this community. This is where Holiday Wishes started, so we're just going to stay here, unless something happens and we are forced to move.

That said, there's really no such thing as an "official" version of Holiday Wishes! We did not come up with this idea, and it doesn't belong to us. While we aren't affiliated with the "unofficial" version on Dreamwidth, we wish it all the best, and if you'd like to see Holiday Wishes flourish there I encourage you to go help them out. I see there's a post up there looking for an admin and moderators. :)

Understood. I've contacted there to volunteer. :)

If that one gets going, would it be OK to post the same list to both - with a link to the other one? (And cross off items if they're fulfilled on one.) I still plan on looking through this one to find things to fulfill (it's a ton of fun every year), so it'd be nice to post here as well.

I haven't quite abandoned LJ... I just use it very little, and do nearly all of my social media activity on DW comms--fannish stuff - fanfic exchanges and such. Most of them either run duplicate communities or are exclusively on DW these days. Yuletide, for instance (the really big fanfic exchange), is still posting dual posts to both sites, but the majority of the activity is on the DW side, so it's possible that even that may change. LJ's been headed downhill but this year really took the cake, with the new TOS fiasco.

Posting the list you post here elsewhere has never been an issue (people often post the same list on their personal LJs). Under our rules, you could also post 10 items on DW and a completely different 10 items here, and it would be totally fine. The rules of the other community may be different; that's up to them.

Linking to your DW list from your list is technically only allowed if it counts as your one external wishlist, but if the list is exactly the same, I personally would probably let it slide.

It didn't even occur to me to post a different list - my thought on linking it was so people could more easily see comments on it from the other site. I figured I'd just write one list and copy/paste, then on both sites I'd strike out any that were fulfilled, keeping the list identical.

Thanks for letting me know!

Hee re: icon ;)

Would you give me the link to the "unofficial" comm on DW, please? Thanks :)

Thanks! Have commented there.

I remember seeing that comm, but it hasn't taken off, so...well, we shall see :)

I hadn't seen it before, but now… I'm telling everyone I know about it (and nearly all of them have a DW thanks to the TOS fiasco on LJ) and most of them had never heard of Holiday Wishes before. They all think it's a great idea, though. :D
