Today is, of course, the ninth. :)
The nineteenth is the last day you can default without any penalty besides simply a) finishing your fic and b) a quick ficlet. It's necessary that the backup gifter get as much time as possible to make a gift, so the penalty will increase as the month goes on.
Due dates are Dec 20 - Jan 2. That makes 24 days until the final due date!
