I finished reading Kim Cooper's book about Neutral Milk Hotel's In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. She did a very sweeping portrayal of the record and its genesis as a bunch of kids swapping mix tapes as teenagers. She infused a lot of quotes from people that were in Neutral Milk Hotel or from Athens, GA during the time leading up to the recordings. Overall, I liked it and she touched on some great insights into the songs themselves. For instance, in Holland, 1945 she connects the line about the "little boy in Spain playing pianos full of flames" to an obscure avant-garde film with the same image.
I also bought The Lion Bridge by Michael Palmer today at a bookstore. Have you ever read Michael Palmer? Do you listen to Neutral Milk Hotel?
